This was my first experience of anything off-road but yes I would like to do more, but probably not up to real fell-running. One thing I really liked about this, my first ultra, was the idea that walking up the hills is perfectly normal and desirable rather than wimpy! That and the opportunity to eat all sorts of weird and wonderful things en route - beats the odd jelly baby any day
Any suggestions for future events gratefully received once I've regained the use of my legs
i was told by an old timer (64 years old, done the race 16 years on the trot, but does the walk about 4 tiesa year),who was very serious about the whole thing (I think he is a chief dirger or whatever they are called), that I was in breach of the rules because I was doing the race without previously doing the walk
He was pretty hardcore - incidently it was the guy who Tim, Loz and Troggy B followed around the side of cringle moor
Caspar: looked at the Fellsman - You cannot be serious-60miles thats Tim territory.
Had a quick look at high peak challenge which looks promising - more do-able than above. Must look more closely to see if there are any hidden nasties.
I think the old timer must be mistaken as to the current rules otherwise Bryan would not have let us non-initiates enter, and the entry form would not have an option for people to estimate their time if they've never done it before
Incidentally, did you see the chap who won the prize for the oldest person to complete the race - 75 years old, looked incredibly dapper and frsh in clean pressed green shorts!
