I'm travelling up Thurs & staying at premier inn at the stadium. Was pondering the athlete party fri night as this will be my first IM so want to make the most of the experience etc (just in case it's first & only!)
I don't think I'll get there in time for the Party on Friday. I have to drive up after work from Nottingham. Check into my hotel. This is about 30 mins away from the Macron. How long is the party on for? I'm more likely to be ready for food about 7.30. I don't mind driving somewhere to eat.
Not bothering with the pasta party. From experience poor food and the wrong time to be milling about on your feet. I'm thinking Pizza Express in Bolton Town Centre. Say 7:30?
Shaz, are you going to the flash on Friday for the swim session?
Yep, my plan is to get up there Thurs afternoon & register & maybe drive the course if there's time. Friday will sort bags in the morn, drive the course if I didn't get to on Thurs, practice swim, briefing & dinner. Sat will just be dropping bits off in the morn & then staying off my feet the rest of the day!
I'd agree about the pasta party. I did one in Vienna for the city marathon and wished I hadn't lol. Pizza express I'm up for that. I'll pm my mobile to you Stanners.
This will be my first (and possibly last!!) IM so figure may as well do the whole experience thing, so just sent my athlete form off (WHICH NEEDS TO BE DONE BY 5PM TODAY FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T DONE IT) & ticked yes for the dinner. They reckon it will only go til 8pm so I figure worst case can always get something else to eat after (or leave early if it's really that bad!)
SA - cool, will look forward to it but I don't have pirate kit so probably won't be too recognisable (although I will have bright pink calf guards on which should limit the field down a bit!)
Shas, I did this a couple of years ago, and although I'm fairly cynical, went for the welcome dinner or whatever it's called. I really enjoyed it! Way too much hype, but reasonable food, seating at tables so no need to worry about being on your feet, and in 2013 they had an amazing drumming troupe which got the adrenaline going. It's also a good chance to chat to fellow competitor who are just as nervous, so I think you've made a good decision.
Hi Guys, i sadly cant make the pasta party (never been) or pizza express on friday night as i'll be sat sitting around at home. i'll be wearing pirate kit on the ride so give me a shout if you pass me.
I just got up here! Hence obviously not done a lot but get into my room, but have started to sort kit out. Tomorrow I plan on registering & driving the course in the morn, early lunch then practice swim, briefing & pasta party. So Sat just have to pack bags & drop them off & then stay off feet!
Hey guys i've registered....number 1767...i dont have a pirate t-shirt but i will say hello to any i see at the briefing this afternoon.
quick question...where is the pirate support? i heard 57 and 99 miles...so i think thats around mawdsley back towards standish...but not sure (i doubt i'll miss you anyway though...i've heard SA shouting before)
this came from a pirate a couple of years ago and i always loved it...seems apt to post it here and is better than good luck
Have a great race. Love your day. You've probably trained harder than you ever have, gone out in sun, wind, rain, snow.
You will have done things you wouldn't have thought possible, covered distances inconcievable.
You will have fought of all kinds of problems, experienced gut wrenching moments of doubt and come through them to find yourself standing in transition, in the dark, sick to the pit of your stomach.
But at some point, during all the miles and all the months, something, somewhere will have changed.
Somewhere inside you is a voice that says 'No. I will not stop. I will not give in. I will go on'.
That's the ironman you have made. That's the ironman you are. Just show everyone, your friends, your family, your fellow competitors what you already know - you are an ironman
Show the the world. Show us you are ironmen. Love your race.
