Woohooo sounds like everyone is doing so well - been a busy week or two so not been able to post so much on here.

I've done two Five Mile races and finished at the back one in 63.25 minutes and this week I was officially last at 62.20 minutes. I loved it and I have the next one on Friday image  Still having big issues over blisters on balls of both feet, changed my shoes and had my gait looked at.  This week I was in agony and could hardly walk after the race as my feet felt on fire!! and were very sore.  So I need to sort that out ready for the GNR.

Been on an organised trail run which turned out to be 7 miles, further I have ever ran too.  So I was chuffed with that.  Need to build up my mileage and sort out my running gait as I think I am running on the sides of my feet.  What else has everyone go planned?

    Kattc well done.

What socks are you wearing? Sounds a silly question but I wear padded compression socks and touch wood never had blisters. Do you tie the top of your shoes using the holes right at the top?

Look on Google and you see what I mean. Lace lock aka heel lock. I don't use it but have a good fitting pair of trainers. This am lucky

Katt, I was going to ask the same thing as Pez about socks.

I suffer with blisters on my heels (Weird shaped feet). I bought some slightly padded running sock, which are ergonomic so a slightly different shape for each foot, and they have been amazing. Not just for my heels but make my whole feet a lot more comfortable. They are only from Tesco too, but seem really good quality.

Definitely might be worth experimenting with socks if you haven't already.

I've been experimenting with soxes which have two layers including hilly, nike etc but I still seem to get blisters.  Have put Vaseline on my blisters and compeed to try and stop them.

But Friday night my feet were burning up and I was in pain.  Going to keep trying different soxes up and have now switched from Nike to Mizuo make of shoes.  Will try and look at Tesco.  I am also going to a running gait specialist tomorrow so will let you know.  But any help is grateful received guys image  I have also brought some engo blister patches for my shoes so I am really trying to solve my problem .

Well done Niknak and Hoopy you are doing great.  I had a session with the beginners group at the local running club last night and I am enjoy running the track as you can lose yourself and not have to worry about crossing roads etc.

Next session for me will be a trail run on Wednesday x

    Hi all,

been lurking on this thread for a while and decided to formally join again the other day.

Also a C25Ker, 3rd time of trying over the past 5 or so years, and super determined this time!

Just completed Week 2 run 1 today which went really well, despite the children having me up a few times in the night (I am a morning runner, out and about at 5:30 before I have had time to come up with an excuse of being too tired after work!).

My main aim is fitness really and other than football, running is the only sport I enjoy.

I have my basic kit, running shoes, shorts and t-shirt. Are there any other things that you have found useful in your running?

Anyway, enough rambling, well done to everyone getting out and running, keep it up, we can do it!

Remember, don't imagine you are being chased by the wolf, imagine you ARE the wolf! image

Welcome fatboyruns well done for trying again you can do it!  I have just done week 3 day 1 and it went really well, I felt like I could have given more but I am taking it steady as I want to keep going.  The advice i have got of this site about slowing down my runs is really helping to make the 'run's enjoyable.  I also found a better route which is less residential in a country lane after speaking to some experienced runners at the weekend.  I am so determined to do this!

Well done hoopyboy we are at the same stage, I am doing my next one week3day 2  on Friday.  Going to do some of the strengthening and core exercises also recommended on here in between.  Any advice about a programme to follow at home for this?

Fat boy runs. I find compression socks and my garmin are essentials. I also find running vests better than the shirts and gels are handy for longer distances but um not a big fan of them

Thanks again all. Week 2 day 2 today, again my pain in the a..I mean beautiful children had me and my wife up a few times in the night/early morning, so getting up at 5 for my run was hard and I was thankful for the title of my alarm for giving me motivation! Dragged myself out and honestly, NOTHING compares to the feeling of finishing a run, no matter how many walking bits there were!

The 1st 2 "circuits" I guess you could call them today were hard, but after that I got into my stride and was ready to run well before the walking part was up (although I didn't..slowly slowly catchy monkey!). The final run I upped my pace and really enjoyed opening the engine up!

Rest day tomorrow then last of week 2. I will make my 3rd session next week a parkrun I think, seeing as the running community is so friendly be great to meet some people with similar interests!

    Keep running people!

Well done fatboyruns, so hard to get out first thing especially without much sleep!

I am joining a c25k group with a running club tonight, they are a week behind what I have been doing but i am hoping having this once a week will keep me going as it gets harder.  I am very nervous to say the least - wish me luck!  As you have said the running community are so friendly so I am hoping it applies tonight!  I am hoping they don't go too fast and can put with my snail pace image.

Hello everyone, can I join you?

I completed c25k for the 2nd time in total but first in the great outdoors in the beginning of march. Since then increased my distance (no chance I could do 5k in 1/2hr) and now hoping to increase my speed. Fastest I've ever done 5k is 34.46 on 20th May.

I seem to have got a bit stuck in a rut. Somehow I'm getting slower and slower (now today that's because it was hotter than a hot thing on a hot day, but it's a trend) I have increased the frequency because I used to do 2-3 runs week whereas now I always try to make it 3. I keep trying to increase my distance but really struggle to steal the time to go further.

I've registered with local park run but am struggling to get there (work some weekends and spend a lot of time kiddie taxiing/ marshalling the others).

Any suggestions on what to do next please? I loved c25k so much as you could really easily see the progress, am worried lack of progress now is leading to me loosing motivation.

Fatboyruns, great post, good to hear how much you're enjoying it. You are absolutely right, the feeling at the end of a run is fantastic, particularly when it was one that started out tough. Keep it up. And I think you'll love parkrun.

Niknak. Great idea joining up with others for motivation. Don't be scared of the later stages of c25k though. Although it looks daunting you'll likely surprise yourself at each stage, I know I did. The plan really works in building you up to each progression.

Barris, good to see another new fac on this thread. I know what you mean about goals after C25K. I wasn't sure how I'd be without that structure. I have just been winging it really. Running what I fancy, going on different routes and doing different distances each time I go out. Some short, a couple have been up to 10k. Have you done a parkrun, if not, give that a go. Maybe do a 5-10k bridge plan as well if you feel you need the structure of an actual plan. Adding distance will probably also improve you 5k pace. The only reason I didn't do a bridge plan is I didn't want to go back to walk intervals while the distance ramped up, I preferred just gradually increasing the length of my longest run.

As for me, I'm bloody injured again. Not running, overdid it at the driving range I think and have been having some hip pain, so taking a few days (week now) off, to let it settle. Hopefully get back on the road by Monday, although I might do a short run tomorrow morning while I'm away in Suffolk.

just completed wk3 day3 but instead of going round the football park went on the road for the 1st time & found it a bit harder probably because of the hill image it was a 2 mile walk/run at 24.49.06 rest day tomorrow then into wk4

keep up the good work everyone

Welcome Barris, I am a complete beginner so I don't know what to do next but may be your local localrunning club do a 10k programme, that's what the one local to me does after c25k. Well done for completing it.

Hope your injury is better jonjay rest is the best thing.

well done hoopbhoy, its funny how much harder different route can be isn't it I have found that too.  Well done for doing it and giving up smoking!

I went to c25k group on Thursday and am so glad I did, they were friendly and the guy who ran it was like a coach showing us how to run correctly etc.  They ran a lot faster than me so I was near the back.  I have been aching from trying to run properly but am ready to go out tomorrow now.

    Keep going!

    Jonjay take care.

    Hoopy bhoy keep It up

niknak is there a proper way to run ? Thought you just put 1 foot in front of other

Managed half marathon in under 2 hr 13 but the last 3 to 4 miles was like a battlefield. People passing out. Vomiting etc. Saw a few people being taken away and it was a hot day so not good if people under prepared. For first time ever I ran with a full bottle in my hand from 3 miles although not much got drank

Nearly all of it ended up over my head lol.

Definitely sobered me up to how much of a challenge a half marathon is a nd how important it is to train well and ensure your fueled properly and that you regulate your body temp.

Even so an extremely enjoyable day topped off with an ice cold cider at end.. surprisingly not nor as enjoyable as I thought it would be following 5 mth of abstinence.

Hi Fraggle. Great to see you back. Finding this thread and reading your early progress and enthusiasm was one of the reasons I did the c25k. Good to see you back here and hopefully see you get all the way through.
