    Hi everyone

KennyM brought me here form the Berlin 2015 thread. Well done on your PB at the GSR yesterday Jokeybhoy. Hi Meadower, we meet again!

Jokey - I got a massive lift at Berlin last week when my old man and mate greeted me at 22 miles with amahoosive HH. Not sure the Germans got it but it gave me a bit extra.

Anyway, fresh from Berlin and just about to sign up for Paris, look forward to trading training stories and taking and giving some abuse on this thread.

Princess Fiona - I think they said if you haven't heard anything by tomorrow, then you should contact them to ask. Give them until midday?

    Call 'em up Pri-Fi .....

It's taper week for me ..... got maximum 35 miles scattered throughout the week. Just gave myself a bit of punishment after a weekend of Belgium Chocolate and drinking beers with lots of people from this thread at The Wedding of the Year. 7.5 miles kind of tempo run, bit slippy underfoot, dodging peds, bikes, cars, school kids, leaves, dust-trucks, took in a fair bit of Hampstead Heath as well. Need to punish myself a bit more this week, particularly on pace, I've been a bit lazy with it recently.

If nothing today will call tomorrow for a personally delivered rejection ????????????.

    Enjoy your say everyone ??????????????????

  • Options

Thanks for all the advice already!

Princess Fiona-at least a personal rejection is better than the email, that's a little like being dumped via text! Perhaps it will be good news??

Meadower - I managed 3:11 and defo had a 3:08 in me so I'm going to have a crack at sub 3, it might take a couple of campaigns to get there but if you don't try... How about you?

Pjfrizzle:Welcome to the thread,it looks like you've got a cracking running CV.

I found a few articles online about elevated race day heart rate.it seems that you folks were bang on the money.Race day excitement and adrenaline cause the heart rate to be as much as 19bpm higher than in training.

Girls need toilets! Managing 26.2 miles will be a big enough achievement-peeing up a tree too may be beyond me!

Hope that you're all keeping well!

Hope everyone is well, and hello to the new faces!

Paris can be expensive for hotels, especially for larger/family rooms over busy periods.    For those that haven't yet booked anything, Accor have many properties in Paris (including numerous 3* Mercures, 4* Novotel and Pullman and 5* luxury Sofitels).   The good news is that they currently have almost every property worldwide on a 40% off sale and are throwing in free breakfast.  You have to pre-pay and join their loyalty points club (free online, you get 30% off if you don't join) but overall it's a cracking offer and importantly has no blackout periods over the very busy marathon weekend!   To give you an idea, I found the following prices which are based on family rooms (or suites in some cases where family rooms weren't available) for 2 adults and 2 children staying for 4 nights (Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon).  Other types of rooms, lengths of stay are available.   I've also put the approximate travel time (by Metro/RER) to the start of the race in parenthesis.

    Les Halles / Louvre

£586 Novotel Paris Le Halles (12 mins to start)

£1094 Sofitel Paris le Faubourg (12) SUITE

    Bercy / Gare De Lyon

    £470 Novotel Paris Bercy (25)

£614 Novotel Paris Gare De Lyon (20 mins)

£720 Pullman Paris Centre - Bercy (25) SUITE

    Eiffel Tower

£434.14 Novotel Paris Tour Eiffel  (21)

£895 Mercure Paris Centre Tour Eiffel (17) SUITE

    Montparnasse

£340 Novotel Paris Centre Gare Montparnasse (25)

£377 Mercure Paris Gare Montparnasse (23)

£395 Novotel Paris Vaugirard Montparnasse (28)

    £400 Pullman Paris Montparnasse (25)

    Opera / Montmartre

£442 Adagio Paris Montmartre (20) APARTMENT*

£705 Aparthotel Adagio Paris Opera (21) APARTMENT*

    £711 L Echiquier Opéra Paris Hotel (22)

    Further Out

    £213 Adagio Paris Montrouge (41)

    APARTMENT* £377

Adagio Porte de Versailles (35) APARTMENT*

£259 Adagio Aparthotel Paris XV (37) APARTMENT*

    Non-Accor Options for Families

£455 Citadines République Paris (31) APARTMENT*

£798 Citadines Les Halles Paris booking.com (12) APARTMENT*

    * = No breakfast by default - can be added as an option.

In summary - there seem to be some reasonable hotels available at great rates and in good locations for the marathon and visiting Paris.

Personally I've booked for the Novotel Paris Le Halles for a few reasons.   Good price for well regarded hotel, quick and simple to get to the start/finish, good location for travelling from CDG and onto Disneyland afterwards with the kids.

Finally - one further tip as I've seen a few people mentioning combining the marathon with Disney - if you check their French website disneylandparis.fr the prices are often significantly better than on the UK website.  Living in the UK you can't book online at these rates but you can do by calling the UK booking line.

I've saved about £1000 today on the 2 hotel bookings!!!!

Jokeybhoy - Cheers, will check out the flights.  Could simplify things somewhat!

PJF - Would almost be a shame not to!  Paris isn't quite Berlin flat, but it isn't half bad at all.  Can certainly be a quick one.  I'll be looking towards Chicago qualification (sub 3h15) with a hopeful, lustful eye on London GFA times.

    Tired Legs - she-wee?!
