Quick question for those that have done The Outlaw before. There are 4 bays at the swim start, and you put yourself in the bay according to your swim time. When the gun goes off, do all 4 bays start at the same time, or is it a case that once bay 1 is clear, bay 2 then goes and then bay 3 and 4, like a rolling start for a marathon?
All 4 start together, but filter towards Bay 1. So providing people have been realistic seeding themselves, the other bays will be out of your way as you join the course
Thanks guys. So if you were dead in the middle of two bays would you recommend starting at the back of that bay, or the front of the next? Probably going to take me around 1 hour, 20 mins and want as little swim biff as possible.
Right, message one OSB. All details for team "Assassins Creed" and team "Jordy's Jokers" have gone through. A new start list will be posted early next week. Not much I can do now
Alternatively go at the back of the fastest bunch, let them swim off leaving you with the place to yourself and if the faster bays have less far to swim it's a win, win
I tried that a few years ago and got blocked by the faster ones joining quickly and was in a big group where we couldnt actually swim .. we all had to stand up and look as there was no free space around us at all..
I was told by a wise old crone to start at the back of pen one, as the fastest swimmers would go off like rockets leaving some clear water before the other pens swam across. It's worked for me both times I've done the Outlaw swim. I know it's hard to gauge if you've never done one before.
Last year I started at the back of pen 2 (over to the right hand side) and after the first minute or so had a relatively uneventful swim in pretty clear water (did get given a dead arm but that was half way up the course so non-start related and probably down to wonky swimming).
I did back of 3 as a slower swimmer - that seemed to work for me from a battering point of view. I didn't want to be on the front of 4 as I start (even) slower, and I thought the back of 4 would dump me behind the breaststrokers (although a fair few of them beat me anyway in the end!). I'll probably do the same this year.
Its a big start line, for all the people that are starting together - I've been jostled far more at other events.

Morning,
I have just emailed OSB with relay entry details I don't think they needed dates of birth, but everyone will need ID at registration.
Just to keep SlokeyJoe from meltdown......

Faster bays have a slightly shorter route to the first marker too

Anyone else going to the feedstation but needing to get back to do a run leg?
That. I almost cried during a swim set with my new club. What the hell??

Don't do that.
