Well I've given the bike a thorough clean, re-lubed everything, adjusted the gears and brakes and taken it for a quick spin. Everything working as it should, other than me. Another week taking it easy and hopefully the lurgy will be gone!
It's a shallow lake, in hot sun for a few days... bet its 'quite warm'. The OW venue I use is a similar depth and surface area, and is considerably into the mid 20s after weather like we've got forecast.... Bet a magic thermometer measures the rowing lake at below 22 deg on race day though...
lets be honest.... its all prep for an Ironman on my 100th birthday
The bike is great - they'll go over it in the briefing but there's only one hill (Oxton Bank). The rest all flows nicely, southern loop, up the main road, northern loop, back down the main road, southern loop and back to HPP. The village where all the spectators are is fun too - Car Colston or something like that. I've done it twice and never encountered any problems from cars and there's so many people doing Outlaw about that the potential Outlaws, sort of, take over the roads - but in a nice way! All the potholes get marked with orange paint which is helpful too.
Even with the "not really all that summery" weather last year my memories of the bike are good.
I don't think it will be hot enough this week to take it high enough. It was roasting in 2013 and had been for some time. I did the 5k swim the day before and wish I hadn't worn a wetsuit. I doubt it will go to non-wetsuit swim. It'll be warm, but not that warm.
B*****ks - well got that off my chest. Had a real bad couple of weeks and yesterday just put the icing on cake.
Got attacked by wasps and Stung a few times I'm allergic to bites and stings, one bugger got me on the back leg and lm unable to walkon it today, this week could be a frustrating one.
Oh no. Don't panic CW. Still a few days away and you will be fresh on the start line. Hope your allergic reaction / swelling subsides soon - sounds painful.
serious question now: I am doing the run section and need to know whether I should carry tissues in case I need to use the portaloos or are they normally well stocked?
Last bit of a bimble on the bike done now. 22 miles at a slow pace with a mate, just to enjoy the evening. Even though today was hotter, this evening seemed to be a more pleasant temperature than yesterday, bit of a breeze helped. Might have a little run the next couple of days just to keep active, though priority will be making sure I've got everything ready for Friday morning!

Maths, I think you said I passed you before we reached the top of the lake if I remember.
Maybe I'll head up front and get my elbows out and avoid the breastrokers
Does anyone know if the organisers lay on food & drink for the finishers? And is it easy for supporters to meet up with the finishers afterwards? Ta.
Up the stairs (ouch) after the finish there is an area with some food and drinks
The finish area isn't that big - just pick a spot on the grandstand or nearby before the race where you can meet and should be no bother
It isn't like a big city marathon where you are fenced off and there are thousands of people to fight through
Need to pack the P20 for the bike ride

razor - yeah, I was having a bad swim and remember someone going past me quickly - can't remember if it was on the way up or back down though
Cheers for that Slokey. I figure that if I focus on the logistics then I can forget about the actual race thingy.
Just started to warm up here in London - sort of hoping that Nottingham doesn't get all of this next w/e.
Long range forecast is overcast with a likely high of 21 degrees, 9mph westerly wind. Obviously plenty of time for that to change...
It was very hot today - and when I was out in it this afternoon I wondered what on earth made me want to do the run??
Thanks every one for the info on the swim and start locations etc.
Any one got any useful pointers for the bike?
What are the chances of the lake reaching 22C and therefore being non-wetsuit swim?

cotswolds wolf....it will make you taper and you will be ready for teh race
then you better be naturally very fit and athletic or you are going to have to be bloodyminded and stubborn to keep going on the day
anyone need accomodation on the sat or sun night?
wolf - hope you are recovering

only a minor thing but it has been on my mind...
Might be worth carrying some just in case.
