I saw the photos Tubs, looks gorgeous, will they give her an armed escort? I know they do with some

weather was a tad revolting today and for anyone who has seen today's FB photo will be aware that the FGO has made the best of a bad job! I swung by his palace earlier to shove a wormer down his neck and was horrified!!

My mother bought me some bulbs for my birthday (don't ask) so I have potted them up before it's too late

yums, so how did it go?!

DL, do you just pack the same lot of running kit over and over again?!

  • Options

The ones we saw on holiday have an armed escort as there was an attempt on that reserve just a few weeks ago. It is a "shoot on sight" policy as well - allowed by SA law with regards to rhino poaching.  Such a tragic situation - so it is particularly fab news about Thandi's calf, Tubs.  Thanks for all the work you do for this from me and MrC.

MrC would volunteer to be an armed rhino guard - he's passionate about them.

Thank gowd I went for a run this morning. It's currently hailing. I took one of our new Spanish nurses to town today to get a bank account, he now knows a new word. hail!!!!

Spence the page 3 bird in RW mag?  My eyes, my eyes;-)

Hope the new choir sorts itself out, sluggy. A good sing song is so upliftingimage

My birds and bees discussion turned out to be innocuous enough and was more about being aware of the effects of our desires on our state of mind. thankfully we skipped over each person divulging how often they think about sex. Love the idea of Hugo filling the jar up every time he thought about sex, chuggyimage

    Morning

I had booked an early morning spin class for this morning, but when I got up, there was snow and ice, so I cancelled!

Lovely news for Thandi, it makes for grim reading when you see the way that animals are treated in this world of ours. image

Good luck on the singing Sluggie, it’s nice to have an outlet that helps the ‘feel good factor’, and singing certainly does that. At least it makes me feel good, others around me when I’m belting out the songs may not feel the same way.

Bin days, revolting weather, dirty animals and sex. All life passes through here image

Spence it might be my relative as she's joined our Jantastic - are the initials SH?

Yums, how very british of your group not to talk about S..E..X (said like Miranda)

If i used singing as a "feel good factor" not many people would get that feeling!!!  hee hee

Today I am tired, didnt sleep very well, TT has this new routine that he wants to go out about 2am, but I dont like locking him out in this weather, so I leave the window open (I dont have a cat flap yet) so he has the kitchen to shelter in.  Only problem is with the weather being so bad I'm getting up to let him in properly........then he wants to go out again.  Seriously, cats can not make up their bloody minds!!!

And I have one of those days which I know involves a couple of difficult meetings

Don't it just, Sue! image Don't like the sound of your snow and ice, tho, good call to stay off the roads.

Yums, quite like the sound of your group. The effect of our desires on our state of mind---we could all benefit by thinking that one through, I reckon!

Snaily, LOL at the idea of your Spanish nurse's vocabulary being enlarged by the English weather! image Won't be long before he knows not only rain and hail, but also sleet, ice, snow, storm, blizzard, flood and all points west, at the rate this weather is going! (They may not even have words for some of this stuff in Spain!)

Melds, the FGO is deffo a 'Singing' in the rain' kind of guy, judging by his photo yesterday image Guess he's inside now, though, is he? Or is the really cold weather not as far south as Oxon?

Tubs, saw the good news about Thandi and her baby. Hope they can keep them both safe now.

Amandax, some of those races look brilliant. Love the idea of the one that goes past the Viking ship!

Sluggie, good idea to try out another choir. Learning music by ear does slow things down (at least if you can read music) but it's odd that they still want you to sing tenor in that environment. Usually you are asked to sing another part only if you are using sheet music, and are one of the people who can read (and therefor can sing another part they don't know by heart). Or are they just short of tenors? Anyway, see how it goes---you want to find a group that is good enough for you to enjoy it, not just feel that you are holding up a rickety structure!

Oneside, we all feel for you. The phone batter is ALWAYS empty just when you really need the phone. It's a law of nature. I have never really had much to do with essential oils, do tell us a bit more about them. What has given you this affection for the flatlands?? And when are you likely to be here???

It is SOOO wet here. It's been chucking it down for days. We have a leak in the roof that we simply can NOT locate; may have to get a roofing chap to come have a look. But apart from that, life is good. Finally managing to do some proper studying, whilst getting ready for a quick flit to France; going down on Sunday, back 2 weeks later. Mr C's present to me for our wedding anniversary (Friday) has just arrived: a reprint of 'The Early English Customs System: a documentary study of the institutional and economic history of the Customs from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century'. Isn't that sweet? That's the kind of romantic gesture that has kept us together for 33 years  image

((((Snaily))) Sorry, missed you there. Roll on the cat flap, it's the only way! And sterkte for your meetings.

Coco, meant to say that it sounds like a perfect holiday. You really did need a proper rest, but it's awfully good that you have also had time to think about WHY you have been getting so tired and stressed. If the job is taking more that it's giving, you are very wise to start thinking about an exit strategy. Life is too short etc. I quit my job 5 years ago (with valuable encouragement from several WAISters who had done the same) because I couldn't stand the stress and frustration of another internal reorganisation, and I'm so glad I did. You can carry a startling amount of tension if your work environment is wrong. And just knowing you don't have to stay with it forever will hopefully make it easier to cope with it for now.

No sign of Nogs? I was hoping to hear how HL's knee is getting on. Sounded pretty uncomfortable so hopefully she is starting to mend now that she's home.

All vile here. Raging toothache kept me awake til 1am, then Mr Daffs woke me up raging at neighbours who had woken him up at 4.15 image They didn't actually go to bed til about 6, stomping up and down the stairs, having loud conversations in bedrooms (third time this week after 2am!) - and then the roofers for the other house arrived at 8 and have had the feckin radio on ever since image

Mr Daffs has gone out, I'm trying not to strangle the people who are now installing a feckin skip outside my kitchen window, and feeling VERY grateful for a friend who's letting us stay in her cottage in the dales for a few days!

Mind you, that's a terrace too... image

    Afternoon,

(((Daffy))) tiredness makes everything else so difficult to tolerate - and toothache is the pits to start with!

Woohoo image Congratulations to Thandi and welcome to rhinobaby image I do hope that the baby will be able to live a long life.

Snaily, yep - you defo need to get TT a catflap (or a flat cap, whichever would be most useful image).

Chuggy, I suspect that Mr C's gift, while not romantic in my eyes, was probably prefect for you.

Awww, our Murph really is a mudlark, isn't he?

The temperature here has dropped significantly, it was 3C when we went out at 10.15 this morning and we had to de-ice the windscreen. Missy Cleo went to the V E T for a mani and pedi. We have been trying to cut her claws, one of them was getting very near to her pad, but were  not having much success. Neither of us have great eyesight these days and the issue is complicated as madam has very furry paws, getting the vet nurses to do it was well worth £10!

Chuggy, we will be in A'dam for a day or so at the end of July - but I suspect you will be in France then?

MS is now out playing bowls. Again.

Penny update.  We spent the morning at the Trauma Unit in Oxford.  She's been assessed and has severely mullered her ligaments.  She has mri scans this Saturday at 8 amimage in Oxford then will end up at The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre for final fettling in the future.  They seem.confident that she'll ski again (if she wants to) but we don't have a time frame for recovery yet.  In the meantime she has to wear a full leg brace to stabilise her leg.

She is very grateful for all the thoughts and good wishes and I'm doing my best to look after her.

    Evening,

(((Daffs)))   I sympathise with the toothache.  I get it intermittently but when it comes on it is sudden and agonising.  My dentist is stumped and sent me to another dentist who didnt think it was the tooth that I think it is as I have had root canal work done on it.  At the moment I can't afford to go back to the dentist for any more work.

Coco, it's great to hear that you had a good holiday and also time to reflect on what is working for you and what isn't.

Snaily, the TT is obviously testing your resolve to keep him!!!

What wonderful news about Thandi.  It's such a shame that humans are so indoctrinated in such lies that mean they keep killing other inhabitants of this world.

Spence, those fancy pants look really good on you.

Chuggy, what a lovely gift from Mr C, even if I have no idea what it is all about!

JFF, you is well 'ard, plodding on the icy stuff.  I don't even like walking on it!

Sluggy, new choir sounds different.  Hope it sets the tone for 2015 (groan).

Monday I walked to work and it was like being in the rinse cycle of the washing machine, wet, windy and cold. To top it off I stood on something that made my trainer go 'pop'  I thought it was a nail or something as I could feel it stuck on the bottom.  I caught the bus home and when I got there I needed pliers to pull out the glass which was about 1.25 inches embedded in the sole.

    Yay for rhino babies

(((((Penny))))) hope the MRI is positive and that she'll soon mend.

FP - obviously good trainers to save your foot from impalement

Happy anniversary Chuggy - sounds like an 'interesting' present.

Well, my well travelled running kit, which has been to many a destination but never been out of the case got to see some scenery. Managed to get out for half an hour in the freezing temperatures. Someone chose a mostly uphill route and wasn't a happy bunny.

Also potential FC6 is visiting on Friday. 15 nearly 16 year old girl. If it works out she will be coming to stay with us as a long term placement.

Happy Thursday - I wonder what the weather will bring today

Podds - I hasten to add that I wouldn't be retiring / giving up full-time work as I can't afford that option either.  The plan (such as it is at the moment) would be to go down to part-time employment and build up my own business the rest of the time.  I have a certain amount of consultancy work I am able to do / have done for several years and it would be expanding this.

Financially, I am very risk-averse so even the option of doing this whilst being part-time employed would be a very big step for me so it's nothing that I'm going to be rushing into any time soon.

((((((Penny)))))) - knee injuries are horrid.  Much sympathy going in that direction and crossing fingers for safe ski-ing in the future.

FP - yowser!  Glad the glass got embedded in the shoe and not the foot!

Busy days yesterday and today running a 2-day training programme at work but it keeps me out of mischief - so I'm told.

LOL Chuggy at your pressie - as someone said, it wouldn't obviously come into the category of "romantic" but Mr C clearly knows that floats your boat and has come up trumps with the perfect pressie image

    How's the tooth today Daffs?

Lucky escape with the shoe FP - could have been nasty if it had punctured right through

DL - just you make sure whoever chose an uphill route for your running kit gets a good telling off........you don't want it going on strike again, do you? image  Fingers crossed for potential FC6

Morning all. If this post stops suddenly it will be because the flatlands have been blown off the face of the earth. WHAT a wind!!

((((Daffs))) Yesterday sounded rotten, really hope today is bright and new and entirely better!! What's with the toothache? That, along with earache, is the most awful thing I know, so I really hope it's gone by now.

Sluggie, the very thought of trying to cut Heineken's nails makes me turn pale. No matter what the vet charges, it's worth it!! And no doubt Cleo behaved beautifully for him image Does MS play bowls with a team? He does it a lot, so he must be pretty good at it.

Podds, I really hope someone recognises what a linchpin you are in the system. Putting together the hard numbers that support the funding request is hard graft, but it determines so much about what the school can actually do. Hats off to you, ma'am.

As to early retirement, live in hopes. I stuck out about 8 years, getting more and more unhappy at work because it paid the school fees. I should say, I have never fallen out of love with my work (the law), and my employer was a very good company to work for; it was the mood of the time (business consultants, endless time-wasting internal meetings, platitudinous babble, fake intimacy, ridiculous and unattainable promises etc etc) that eventually I couldn't stand any more, so I was lucky to be able to get out when I did. Maybe at some point another opportunity will open up for you too.

Oh Nogs, poor Penny. That sounds like a very nasty business with her knee, although the good news is that they expect a full recovery. Fingers crossed that the MRI doesn't show too much damage---keep us posted, please. That leg brace must be uncomfortable as well as inconvenient---guess you'll be on duty front and centre for the foreseeable.

FP, how annoying (and painful!) to have a toothache and they don't know why!! I had a bad one last summer, which Ithough was an infection in the tooth, but the French dentist said it wasn't the tooth, which was fine , but actually was an infection was in the gum, which swells and make the tooth hurt and feel 'high'. You might try very assiduous brushing and cleaning and an antibacterial mouthwash to see if that helps. As to that piece of glass---sounds like your trainers are sliced in two, glad it wasn't your foot!!!

DL, I'm sensing a comeback here on the running front image Mind you, if you share your life with a teenage girl you may find yourself thankful for any excuse to get out of the house, even exercise! image Seriously, though, it would be great if it worked out and she could have a stable home with you. That's a terribly hard time not to have a real anchor. Let us know how it goes.

Yums, you is north! LOL at your vision of Nogs and HL doing a three-legged ski! image

Coco, even if you can't see leaving your current job right now, it's always good psychologically to have a Plan B so you don't feel trapped. And you haven't been in the new place for even a year yet, so it's possible things there may improve. Either way, you've got options.

Yes, Mr C's pressie was touching, wasn't it? Especially as I chose and ordered it myself and informed him of what he had given me image Long experience indicates that this is much the best route to marital harmony! image

Was meant to be meeting a friend for lunch but she's had to cancel, and as it is now absolutely pouring, as well as blowing a hoodie, I think I'll just go do some nice lunches and squats to get the blood movi

    Afternoon,

(((Daffs, FP and anyone else with gob problems))) I have several cracked teeth -on opposite sides of my mouth. I guess that should be good for weight loss!

My sincere admiration for all those who are streaking in this weather.

Noggs, I'm glad that the damage to Penny's knee doesn't look too bad. Soft tissue injuries can take some time to heal, longer than fractures in many cases, so I think your nursing skills will be needed for a while yet.

Coco, as Chuggy says, it's good to have an escape plan in mind. I have found, in the past, that just knowing I could get out helped me manage things that were otherwise intolerable.

Podds, when you have finished with the school stuff, would you like to have a go at maximising the money I will have to spend this year? image

Tubs, do you have a date for your eye surgery?

    and how about Mr Pippi?

Chuggy, the 'new' choir have really good  attendance and the only section still open for new members is the low altos. It just happens that they sing the tenor line very often - and that was what I wanted to change. Although I like to have the dots, I certainly don't sight-read. I learn best by standing at the shoulder of someone who knows the part and picking it up from them. I'll give these peeps a go and see what transpires.

Thankfully, it is slightly less windy here than it was overnight and the sun is shining between the 'showers'.  I've just had me barnet chopped and am seeing TM this arvo.

    Afternoon all

just checking no one has been blown away, my back yard looks like armageddon

i got home about 2.30 this morning, lock the cat flap so the GPO can't go out but if he were out he could come in, ie locked one way.  Pretty quickly off to sleep amidst the howlong gale.

disturbed from a deep sleep at I don't know what time by what I thought was a cat growling .. Clearly was in a deep sleep as I must have dropped off again and put it down to a dream, GPO asleep on my bed as usual.  Woke about 1130 and thought it unusual he had not woken me up and demanded breakfast.

he wasn't interested in his breakfast, not unusual as we sometimes have a stand off if it is not the flavour he was expecting. Couple of piles of watery sick on the kitchen floor and he's doing the low guttural howl that only a cat can and my mind goes back to my disturbed slumber of the morning ....

eventually located a small black cat under the coffee table in the lounge, don't think he was entirely happy having spent a night trying to be inconspicuous and he made a bolt for the back door being swiped by the GPO on the way out who was quite brave now he had back up ...

I have to say that GPO needs to MTFU when dealing with intruders!

JFF - from what you've said about your job, I definitely think you need to join the Plan B Brigade image

  • Options

It made me laugh as the GPO swiped its backside as he legged it out of the lounge as if to say 'yeah, and don't come back', bravery in numbers eh!
