Hippo - much as like to carry you across teh ravine, I'm afraid the rope bridge will have to suffice. After all, I'm going to be so far ahead of the rest of the field...
Ducks LOVE mud. Surely the whole purpose of running, indeed life, is to jump in muddy puddles? & get rained on to wash it off? 'Cos then you can jump in the boggiest bits without anyone noticing
At last fell run: "Duck, how come you are so muddy? You even have mud on your nose." "T, how come you aren't muddier? Did you cheat?"
Juicer here - Haggis, haven't sent form off yet. But will put the full 12 hours. Vrap, have you sent yours off yet? Have you got a spare one you can bring round Monday?
You can't fail, cos if nothing else, it's always good training for the next challenge round the corner.
Juicer, I've printed off a form for you and I'll bring it round. We're putting 10hrs 15 minutes so that Haggis will start before us and WE can ogle HIS lycra-clad bum once we've caught up )
Next challenge. Trailwalker, one week later. Yikes!
You've been busy over the weekend. Those that asked for route details; I've mailed them out. I think hysteria is beginning to set in on the forum. People are beginning to get carried away with their enthusiasm. To answer a few 'queries': Reference to fell runners running all way. Even the best have to walk a little of it. All the route is suitable for walking; no one should have a problem in crossing the moor. Even in July it can be very wet. Hippo is not exaggerating (too much). Jugger can be horrific in bad weather. There used to be a plank bridge across the beck but this got washed away. Currently trying to get the Parks to replace it. As you drop down towards the beck bear slightly left. If bridge is replaced that is where it will be. Depth of mud is not bad apart from around Rosedale Head area. Then it can be v deep in bad weather. Any runner entering should allow a little more time than they think they will need; this run does not easily equate to marathon times and conditions can vary drastically.
Hippo As everyone keeps saying. Last year you did not fail. You covered a lot of miles, navigation let you down. This time you can draw on that experience and complete. You are capable. Think how you'll feel if the conditions are perfect and you didn't even try.
OK! More than a little. You are better overestimating the time rather than underestimating. Your handicap is based on your estimate unless I know some previous history. Would be a shame to pull someone from race if we could have given them a couple of hours more on handicap. You will only get disqualified from trophies if you finish more than 2 hours ahead of estimate. Weather makes a serious difference to time. From experience hot weather seems to affect entrants more than bad weather. (Hippo, I'm talking about serious fell runners here.)
I've just remembered, I'm supposed to be doing a local 10k that day and son is doing the junior race. All part of a local league. Race is so local I usually run to the start. Excuses eh?
Comments
But you've gotta start. At least if you have a go, then you haven't 'failed' in my eyes.
Entry form about to be posted - what time did you put down V-rap & Juicer ??
At least we now know what V-rap is made of - 6kg of sinewy dinosaur and 54kg of chocolate )
Hippo, you can't 'fail' if you enter, you can only DNF. Compared to 99.99% of the population entering is an achievement in itself!

Maybe not!

Hipps, you shouldn't be so hard on yourself :-)
