OK. Blow the aliases. My name is Tia. I am the Community Fundraising Coordinator for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation. I am also a close friend of Lewis (my son's 'adopted' dad!) and a work colleague of Ron McAndrew - a veritable star in his own right. My word, Sunday was a toughie for you all. I admire and respect you all too. I seriously could not run for a bus, so why I am I on this forum I hear you ask? Just because I was tired of the damning words that were being written. Mick and Phil should be listened to and perhaps I should too. When all is said and done, you are all so bloody lucky to be able to put one foot in front of another. Ron and Co did not wake up on Sunday morning and say to themselves 'OK chaps, let's make this a real crippler for the runners.' They woke (Lewis had, of course, been up for 36 hours and so hadn't actually slept!) and said 'this is going to be a toughie but let's make it the biggest and best race ever!' As I have said previously, I am not a runner, but for heavens sake, if Ron & Lewis & Co say 'enough's enough' what's left for you? Absolutely nothing! I got sunburn today walking around Manchester! I think I might threaten legal action....... The water cooler wasn't working in my local ASDA on Saturday... I might threaten legal action.

We live in the most horrendous litigious society. Be thankful for absolutely everything you have because believe me, you might just not have it tomorrow! The end.

I'm beginning to cheer up now. If someone who has run lots of marathons can say this was one of the most difficult or horrid then that would be great.

As its the only one Ive done or am doing its difficult to put the time in context. As i said before the race I might enjoy looking back at it. (in about 100 years time)

    Tia,

    Well said!

I did not manage to finish on Sunday, but it did not ruin my enjoyment of the day and the race. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

    Its tempting, isn't it Snappy?!
  • Options
......but when people start talking about the water coolers in ASDA the temptation becomes almost overwhelming.........

If someone had died on Sunday........insufficient water........."res ipsa loquitur" ........

LL - people are coming to the defence of Ron and his team because they know they're a good bunch of people and they feel a lot of the criticsm has been personal. Some was, but looking back over the last few pages here there's been a lot of constructive and rational comments about the event, yet people still want to rant on about how fortunate we are and that we're nothing but a bunch of litigious troublemakers.

throughout my pre and post race comments, I've given the race team a lot of praise and no personal criticism but I feel I have a right to say what I felt was wrong and no defence team, however well intentioned they are, will stop me.
  • Options
Are Asda supposed to have water coolers then LL...bloimy...mine hasn't, I might have to have a word, I'm lucky to have survived the weekly shop all these years!
  • Options
    You cannot defend the indefensible.

Well you can try I suppose.
  • Options
Trin, to anyone who shops in ASDA I have but one thing to say - "Volenti non fit injuria" ;-)
  • Options
translation in 'The Lounge' please LL ;)
  • Options
Mrs TC the chafelets and MumTC got on a bus from St Annes to Blackpool to see the finish. the grumpy bus driver said the route was diverted due to some "funrun"

    Levi,

Shall we start with the koine greek?

hös de epemenon erötöntes auton, anekupsen kai eipen autois, Ho anamartëtos humön prötos ep' autën baletö lithon
  • Options
Sorry! I was being pretentious ;-)
  • Options
Would Volenti non fit injuria include those that run in a marathon?
  • Options
Trin, if you shop in ASDA you get what you deserve.

But the same principle should not apply to running in the Blackpool Marathon.

    X-Post. Thanks Biasti! :-)

    Biastai,

Leave me out of this, you are all far too clever for me:-P
  • Options
Yes, I was at the finish. Come to think of it I was there for 48 hours with, like all the organisers, very little sleep. What did I get out of it? The pleasure of seeing you all at the finish. And, yes, I will do it all again next year. Yes, things went wrong and, yes, you all deserve to have your say and, yes, a great deal of the comments are extremely well put and well deserved. Bottom line, though, my 10 year old son was also a volunteer and he
needs to feel that as a 10 YEAR OLD, volunteering is worth it. At the moment, he's still hurting at seeing the people he adores being slated. Incidentally, my son met Mick n Phil at the Pasta Party and, like me, thinks they are the real hero's here. No complaints.

Just getting on with the life they've been given.

Big up to my wonderful son, just one of the funnel runners on the day.
  • Options
Sorry Tia but the "bottom line" is the safety of the runners.
  • Options
then I include you and your son in my thanks for all your efforts. As I did to each marshall as I passed them because without them and you and Ron and everyone who gives an awful lot to this sport, there ain't no sport if you don't do it. But why should that prevent me from saying what I feel strongly about Sunday?
  • Options
    Tia,

Action speaks louder than words. Is there a useful way for me to help towards next years marathon?

Not sure what and if I could run as well, but I would love to do something!
