    Cheers coach.

Will give that a go and see how I get on.

Think I'm going to have to do a bit of twice a day training as my mile is going to be about 6 hours after a morning 5k race, so my legs are going to need to get used to it.
Might make my 5 minute target a bit ambitious.

    Here is my week:

    Monday:20mins easy
    Tuesday:6mile run + circuit Training
Wednesday:mile run with 4x600m trail in between(Club night)
    Thursday:30mins easy + 4x200m
    Friday:30mins easy + stretching
    Saturday:1500m race
    Sunday:7mile run

To simulate the running hard when tired, it might be an idea to finish off the 5x3mins session with a long recovery (maybe 10mins) and then go into some shorter reps of about 30 secs with 30 secs recovery, and run about 5 or 6, but it depends how much of this type training you're doing at the moment - if you try to jump straight to that session without any progression, you may burn out or injure yourself.

    My week:
Nothing for a few days after BUSAs because of exams and then found time for a gentle 30 mins on Friday evening to ease my legs back in and a faster 45 min steady yesterday morning. Hopefully will manage to get back to normal training this week.

Thanks HC. How fast do I run those 30 second reps? Mile pace or just as hard as poss?
  • Options
As fast as you can while maintaining good form and a fairly even pace - how fast that is or how many you can do while achieving both of those criteria you may have to discover from experimenting. Some of the very fast sessions (800/1500 pace) are harder than sessions which have a higher volume of reps but are slightly slower, so if you can do them with someone or in a group it will help.

Sunday:800m race-a new pb of 2:10 and also 8sec pb.

I would like to here everyones report on how there season has gone so far.Heres my report. In my first track race of the season i got a new pb of 2:18, then 10days late i ran 4:46 in my first ever 1500m track race and also on the same day ran a 2:26 800m. three days later i ran a 4:54 1500m-dissapointed but learnt off my mistake after burning out in the week but after all, this is my first season in athletics and its mostly about expierence. Then a week later i did a 4:47 1500m but done the last lap in 71secs and i wasnt dead. Then a week later(last sunday) i ran a new pb of 2:10 in the 800m after covering first lap in 63 so i was delighted with pb. Then midweek i ran a 2:13 800m but i knew i wouldnt beat 2:10 as a muscle in my left leg was sore from fatgigue.Yesterday i sent off my entry form for the welsh championships in the 800m as im feeling very confident in my first season. So this season has gone very good for me but i know i can smash 1500m pb so im still looking to beat 2:08 and 4:28 before end of track season.Ive had a lot of races to gain expeirence. Looking forward to everyone elses report

have had 4 track races so far. ran my first ever 800 in 2.06 in very windy conditions and with noone to beat. also won the 1500 an hour later that day in 4.13

a week later smashed my 1500 pb in ideal conditions (4.04.6) and today came second in I don't know what time as it was so windy I didn't even bother looking, it was all about getting points for the team

so very happy with how it's going so far. would like to get as close to 2 mins and 4 mins as possible and will be doing some 5ks too. if i can get sub 15.30 in that I would be happy. thing is you need to get the right combination of conditions, opposition and state of fitness!!

ChrisPro15 - I did my first ever track race a 1500m and managed 4:49, though the pace for the first lap (80s) was too slow and I shifted gears. No experience pace-wise. 1h later I did 2:19 in 800m. I haven't raced the distance again, but raced a 3000m few days later and managed 10:18. Then few days later again 10:08 and last week 9:57. All those times aren't really great compared to the others but indicate an improvement VO2Max wise due to heavy race schedule. I haven't done any specific training for the event yet, ie intervals.

    Heres my week,

    Monday:50-60m reps,practicing staggerd starts, acceleration runs,drills + 2mile run(Club night)
    Tuesday:6miles fast
    Wednesday:Rest
    Thursday:800m race in 2:13-bad race
    Friday:Rest
    Saturday:30mins easy
    Sunday:8miles easy

An easy week for me as without an increase in training i seemed to have found fatigue from somewhere so overall dissapointed but i am looking to increase intensity of my training schedule this week. Just seen a result of a U17 male "ieuan thomas" from a rival club in the 1500m in 4:00.91, really annoys me as im in the same age category and ill probaly be against him in the welsh champs but well done to him

As to the season so far - XC went brilliantly through the winter with a 42nd place at BUSA and 89th at National.
Then started track season quite early as I wanted to be in shape for BUSA by May Bank Holiday weekend, so started with a 2000m in March, then did two long legs in Area/National Road relays with a 3k in between and then got to BUSA in great shape as I had hoped, running a big new PB of 15:08.7 to make the final. Although I was tired for the final and faded to finish in 15:40.
Now trying as yet unsuccessfully to break 15 mins although will get in some 3ks and at least one 1500 during the summer as well.

Cutting back mileage for an easier week last week. Here's what I did:

    Mon: 3 x 300 with long recovery (all 45-46s)
    Tue: 45min steady
Wed: 8x150m acceleration run (walk back) + a fast 400 to finish in 61s
    Thu: 30min easy
Fri: 15min steady, 30 min hilly fartlek, longish efforts, 10 min steady
    Sat: 65min steady

Not much in the way of overall distance but one satisfying hard effort on Friday night - really felt I'd worked hard at the end of that.

    Anyone raced this weekend?

I done the 800m and i finished in 2:11, an improvement on my race 2 weeks ago of 2:13 but still a second short of my pb. I could have beaten my pb but i didnt go out hard enough and the last 100m i did flat out so it was a good sign of a good time is possible.

Then an hour later i did the 400m and i done it 58.xx , very pleasing after the 800m. Then i also done the 4x400m 3rd leg for the team and we came 3rd. Overall i was pleased as i know i can break 2:10 this year hopefully as low as 2:05.

Well the welsh Championships next for me on the 18th but my 5mile road race on Wednesday first. i will be pulled along in that as the winner will obviously be sub 2mins and i will make sure i break 2:10 by hitting the bell in 60-62.

    Anyone else raced this weekend?

    My week

Mon: Session on grass at racecourse (track closed on bank holiday) 2 sets of 1furlong, 1f, 2f, 1f with a furlong jog between efforts and about 10 mins between sets - furlong = approx 200m
    Tue: 40mins steady
    Wed: 10 x 400 (90secs) all in 66-68s

After this caught a heavy cold, ran a slow 5000m in a league race on Saturday just to get the points - worth it because we won the match - but haven't done any training since.
