thanks, have more or less decided not doing it. Was on walk around duty at lunch today and knee hurt just walking round school for 15 mins so its unlikely that I will beable to run for 2 hours in just over a week.
  • Options
I bet you burst into a sprint at home time!

Just kidding. Have a relaxing weekend, no running. Just chocolates and telly.
  • Options
good advice gf-but you missed the large amounts of guinness(gives you lots of iron!!!!!)I swear by guinness when im resting!!!!!
  • Options
its hometime now so going to go for a swim and do some aqua jogging in the school pool. Cant eat loads of choc when not running cos will get fat then depressed then eat more and get even fatter then my knees will be carrying so much extra weight that I will never beable to run again! I hate guiness. Why do I ned lots of iron? I thought it was lots of protein to repair the damage?

I was thinking of aiming for the Belvoir half in April now I'm missing the TT.

How can you not like Guiness?

At least you can go for a swim, etc. I've done nothing now for 4 weeks (apart from walking to and from school).Lukily I don't put weight on easily and find that my apetite lessens when I don't run. However I miss the stress relief it gives me (and the break from the kids).

well sorry to say gran was right, we,ve now got number three ,
sorry to hear your giving it a miss hellen get your self a good MOT on that leg before you start up again theres got to be a reason for the pain in the knee and i dont think it ,ll be vitamins.i think its time to seek out a specalist and get some advice take care love and try not to get to down

KG, is the belvoir half the same thing as the belvoir challenge. If not, where is the Belvoir half?
SB, I saw a specialist a while back about my knee, had xrays and pysio which sorted it but at that time I didnt really run so it was easy to keep under control. NOw with the extra running it has flared up again, am going back to see podiatrist but havnt got appointment through yet. Also went to see dr who has referred me to see a specialist again for an MOT just to make sure there is nothing else but I expect that will also take a while.
Asked hubby for a garmin for xmas which came this am - I opened the door to the postman but he soon swipped it off me, so I really want to be running in time to use it for xmas.
KG you are lucky that you dont put on weight easily, I imagine you are getting really fed up not being able to do anything
I felt a bit better after having a good aqua jog session yesterday in whcih I did quite a loit of hard interval. nearly got the same buzz as I do running.
hope you all have a good run this weekend then remember not to overdo it this next week.
Thanks for all your support, hubby doesnt really understand as he is a bit of a couch potato.

    Hello people
On a really boring note, will there be lots of parking available if they have shut a car park this year? Am travelling a fair way and can only travel on the day of the race
  • Options
I always park on the street outside houses as I've never arrived early enough to get into a car park.

Belvoir half is a road half - pretty fast and flat - think it starts in Hose but it's been a couple of years since I did it. Normally in the spring - fairly small field as it's not normally well advertised.

I would aim to park at the British Geological Survey (which is marked on the plan) as that is the biggest car park. They run a shuttle bus from there to the start but it isn't far to walk.

Hellen - the Belvoir half starts in Hose and then runs through Langar and some of the other villages in the vale. Did the 4.5 mile "fun run" last year and came 3rd - beaten by two young girls of about 10 and 12!

Still not sure whether or not I will be out cheering you on - feeling rotten again today (and very cheesed off). I think this is the longest lasting bug I have ever had.

hi helllen, sorry to hear you're not going to make it but I'm sure you're making the sensible choice (however hard it may be).

My ankle is still dodgy and aches most of the time, but it is OK when I'm running luckily. Also starting to get some knee pain which I guess is because I'm running slightly out of kilter to protect the ankle. I probably shouldn't do the TT, bu I'm going to for my sanity. I've only done a couple of shortish runs in the last 2 weeks and I'm going stir crazy from not running. Didn't even do the Clowne half, though thats partly due to to not paying in advance and threfore going back to bed half an hour after I got up on the day. And, like you, I'm suffering already on the weight front. I've put on a few pounds in the last couple of weeks.

Hope the ankle picks up soon. And there are a few races around over the next few weeks. I've got a few pencilled in over the holiday period. Are you doing the Barrow Runners' boxing day handicap?
  • Options
flanker, make sure you look after that ankle, you dont want to make it worse then be out of action for ages. I should have dropped out of seagrave at the 10 mile mark cos was suffering quite badly then but I wanted to finish it. In doing so it has made matters worse.
Have entered the barrow boxing day handicap and am hoping to be OK for that but last week when I tried the treadmill I had to stop after 1 minute so things not looking good.
to make matters worse it is a lovely day today for a long run, instead I have to do body pump which I like but I want to run. At least I can relax in the sauna afterwards I suppose.
the belcoir half is 9 april, just checked on RW. may well do that but want to wait unitl knee better before start making plans otherwise if I decide I want to do something then am not ready for it I will be even more dissapointed.

Looks like I won't be doing the Belvoir. I was sure it was the week before. I'll be on holiday on the 9th.

It's beautiful and sunny in Keyworth this morning. Hope it is like this for those of you who make the start line next week.

was meant to go out for my last long run before next weekend today, but friends descended and I lost the whole day. Grrrrr

Will have to fit a couple of 8-9 milers in around work over the nxet coule of days and then take it easy for the second half of the week. Looking forward to the race despite not having run properly for a few weeks. The hopes of a PB might not happen!

Race number is 1247. I'll be wearing something warm!

hellen, thanks for the thoughts. I'll try and take it easy on the ankle, but I know as soon as the gun goes I'll forget all about it!

Did we mention sometime earlier about getting together for a pint afterwards, or was that in another thread? KG, any recommendations?

The easiest pub to get to, as you can see it from the start/finish area, is the Keyworth Tavern. Used to go in there a lot BC (before children) but haven't been in recently - although somehow my other half still manages to frequent it! No food though if anyone was looking for that.

Glad to report that at last I'm starting to feel better so I might get to actually go out for a run at the end of the week

KG, glad that you're starting to feel better at last. And thanks for the tip!

bet your all getting excited about this race. am dead jelous, wish I was doing it. On a more positive note, went to see a pysio this am. He said that my spine was out of alingment so did lots of pushing pulling and twisting to sort it out. Now I need to do some stregthening exercises as the muscles around that area are weak so that it doesnt happen again. He said no running for 10 days which in the grnad scheme of things is OK. Said I should be fine for doing the barrow boxing day handicap so that is good news, just hope that I will have chance before that to do some trianing for it otherwise I will come in last!!!

hellen, execellent news. Sounds like progress at last.

Went out and did six miles along a muddy canal towpath yesterday to give the ankle a good workout and apart from being a bit stiff this morning it feels OK (actually feels better for it). Will try a 9-miler today and if that is OK then I'll start to get excited about Sunday. I think the plans for a PB have probably had it, but it will be nice to get around in a reasonable time and without (too much) pain!
