count me in,fingers crossed i will enter on the day, this will be my first proper race so i'm excited. I've only been running properly for 6 months now and have done 9.5 mile a few times so i think i can do 10. i'll be the slow one finishing last
Is it really bad? Do you stretch enough? Sorry don't mean to be bossy about the stretching, but it is sooooo important! I was going to do this with my boyfriend, who pulled a calf muscle earlier in the week. I put him on a stretching regime and he was ok after a couple of days... and is now running it again. It is worth a try!
Maybe I should mention that I am a yoga teacher and yoga therapist (like a physio but using yoga)in training, so very keen on spreading the benefits of religious stretching.
i think i stretched well enough i normaly spend 10 mins doing it, i read a book on it. the bitter cold doesn't help i've basically over done it recently. i could probably run sunday it feels better already but i don't want to take the risk especially as i have my eye on the half marathon in march 26th.
Ohhh, pitty! Yes, I agree, the cold does not help!
Well, for it to get better more quickly, stretch twice a day, even though you are not running. It really helps to heal the muscles. Self massage helps too, I find. You can use arnica cream, helps with healing too.
I agree about not taking risks, its not worth it aggravating a minor injury maybe making it worse.
I ve just started running after 4 weeks out and I'm still tempted to enter on the day. I think though that after a couple of 3 and 4 miles this week I should stay cautious and concentrate on the half in March. Which half are you doing Keltech? Good luck to all running
Hi Julie, I ran a 10 miler in Gloucester earlier in the year, after having gotten back from an injury. I only had run for 4 weeks and up to 8 miles by then, so it was my longest run for months, but it worked. Sometimes it is a good idea to enter a race but be prepared not to race it, to get back into the swing of things...
Then again, for me its all part of my training for the Rotterdam Marathon in April, so it works differently. I use my races on these short distances as tune ups to hopefully get a bit faster.
Hi all. Not sure I'll be stewarding now as I have this horrid cold virus thing that's going around. But good luck to all who are running. (Jojo retires to bed with a hot mug of lemsip :-(( )
Hope my entry made it. Have done two days of harder than normal training though and toying with taking tomorrow off as I am sure my legs are going to be ker-nacked by Sunday otherwise... but a little 3 mile trot sounds so tempting and lovely! We'll see. If I take it easy on Sunday then it will be a nice easy PB to smash later on in the year!!!!
