Back on my own user ....

We had a lovely time. Em's girls and Mart are super (in fact Mart is very dishy!). I thought we'd done the mile in 14mins but when I rechecked my watch it couldn't have been ... it was more like 12 or 13mins ... which was excellent for me and probably a record 'slow' for Em !!

We passed one of the places I work for and a couple of staff members and some of the residents(teenage homeless) were standing outside ... they cheered and clapped us! I think we might of picked up our running pace a little at that point ... soon as we were round the corner I had to walk again LOL.

Mike - new thread will be up on Monday in beginners. As soon as I've got it up I will post the title here. Canal walk in this weather should be beautiful .. hope you are drinking plenty though!

Looking forward to post-run reports from Plod, Allie, Stu and Jilly.

Did you run or walk, OTH?
  • Options
Hi Siân, we did a bit of both but must confess probably more walking than running. We only did 5 runs, doubtful if any more than a minute or so, and the last a very short one at the finish. Crowded in a lot of the time. Em said my running pace was quite good.
  • Options
Well, like I said that's my running pace! So I'm really impressed. I do have short legs. I'm 5 foot 5 and Mykey's mum is 4 foot 11 and her legs are the same length as mine! I don't think I look too out of proportion but it does affect my speed.

My INSPIRE CV is ready to roll. I hope it's not too long but I don't think there's anything I could cut out. Are you going to let us know here when it's up and ready so we can post?

Back home now...after a really nice few hours. Gonna spend the afternoon chillin in the garden I think.

Was lovely to see OTH, and to meet Nicki. She is a fabulous girl, my two loved her. Very nice, and a real stunner!

This must be the mutual apprecition society today. :-)

Well Mykeys...have a wonderful evening tonight won't you.

LE have a fab run tomorrow.

    Love Em

Excellent Siân - haven't started my bit yet !!

Yes, what I'll do is get the thread up late Sunday night (to discourage new posters from posting before we've done our thing)... so anytime on Monday will be good .. or late Sunday night if you are still up. we'll not post anything except our 'bits' on Monday to give everyone a chance to do theirs, then Tuesday it'll be business as usual but at the new thread :-)

I will let everyone here know as soon as it is ready to go anyway.

OTH my profile is over a page on word at font 12 is that ok!!!?? or is it too big

I'm quite envious of you guys meeting. It would be good if one day we could all do a central race and get as many of as possible to meet.

The cleaning is done and Mykey's having a shower. I'm going to get some treats for the babysitter and then back to shower and get myself sorted. The childrens godparents will be arriving in an hour or so and we want to be washed and ready by the time they come so they can get themselves sorted. Excited now!!!

    Hiya folks.

Wicked to be in races again (even if I dont exactly race).

Weather glorious here in Leeds, if a bit hot. Got delayed setting off, so no time to lose going round ring road to Roundhay Park. Pleanty of free car parking though.

Didnt really drink enough before run, as was in hurry and queue for water tent didnt seem to move at all.

Anyway, lined up about halfway back. They had a separate channel for 5/6 min milers, but would have preferred a few more, as when we set off I nearly fell over a couple doing it 3 legged and people pushing buggies. Not a problem as I wasnt bothered about speed, but I was concerned about the safety of the very young runners in the crush. Nice sweeping descent through trees to the side of the lake.

Hard climb in the sun just after the half mile marker, which led to a gentle climb, but with insane camber. Had to lean over just to stay upright, if that makes sense.

Downhill finish, so long strides and eyeballs out, as they say.

Crossed line in 8:10. Was able to run the whole way. Very happy. Felt good afterwards, and surprisingly not dehydrated. Couldnt have kept it up for long without water though.

Goody bag slightly cheesy, but you dont expect the crown jewels when its for charity.

T-shirts 8 quid. A bit overpriced IMHO, but good quality. I got the very last mens shirt they had, apparently.

Loads of water available afterwards, and the lakeside cafe made a good resting place. Butties pricey though at nearly 4 quid for a baguette.

All in all, a very very very good day.

Well done Stu...sounds like you had a good time. (in both senses)

    :-)

A big congratulations to everyone who lined up to be counted today. Not only is it very cool that several of us are doing the same race (albeit in several locations), but its also great the diferrence we are making to peoples lives through Sport Relief.

Anyway, hope you all had a good time and enjoyed the experience. Long may it continue for us all!

Just to clarify, when I said 'good time' above, I meant it in the enjoyment sense, not in the how-long sense!

Hi Dan ... you may find that when you copy and paste your profile in that you get and error message saying it is too big (I can't remember what is allowed). But it's no problem ... just highlight and copy/paste in the first half and send, then highlight and copy/paste in the second half and send ... makes no odds it's on two posts :-)

Stu .. well done there lad .. great desciptive post, very good time. We thought of everyone else running today when we went round too.

We really hope you both have a great time. And, yes, we must all meet up sometime ... some of us might just come to watch you others and for the 'party, party' afterwards though!!

I think it sounds like both senses Stu?

    Hi all

Mrs BD (Jilly) and I are back from our little trip to the Trent embankment in Nottingham.
The weather was warm and sunny, with a bit of a breeze.
We arrived with nearly an hour to go before our mile, which was the second of the four events that were held at half hour intervals, with the first starting at 11:00.
So we had time to walk the course, visit the loos, and watch the first one start and see most of those folks finish, before going to warm up for our turn.
    So how did it go?
I am very pleased to report that Jilly completed the course in a time of 11mins and 5secs, jogging all the way round. I stayed 1 or 2 paces in front, and escorted her round the course, resisting the temptation to say bye bye and race for the finish. On finishing, Jilly was a little flushed, and needed a brief sitdown, before we went and watched the two remaining events. (and ate a burger)
The whole thing was very enjoyable, and had an amazing age range of participants of something like 90years, from little babies who were only just learning to walk, to folks several generations senior.
Congratulations to all you other milers at your events around the country.
Now we have to collect the money.

Congratulations everyone on your miles today. Just watched some highlights on the tv of Leeds and Southampton. OTH - EM where was your one?

Had a long walk - albeit a very slow one - with our grandson round the zoo. We were on the go for four hours. Then Tesco shopping and then home to rest.

Getting ready for tomorrow - quite looking forward to it - I think.

Have written a bit for the new thread - have to tell you though, I was writing it at work yesterday afternoon and got a bit tearful. Glad most people had booked the day off. Still, hope it is alright and look forward to reading everyones bit on Monday.

See you all on Monday, (or maybe tomorrow evening) take care all.

    Hey everyone.

I was hoping some of you might be here to chat to. I've been having PC problems and couldn't get here earlier.

Well done all the milers today. Glad you all enjoyed it. I too, thought of you all while running mine at NewcastleGateshead (funny how that seems to be written more and more as one word). 12 mins is good going OTH - is that a PB?

I really enjoyed it, though I had no idea how to pace myself for the mile; I just went for it Same time as you Stu (8mins 10). I'm pleased with that!

I came home to watch the SRM mile programme (I'd vidoed it) - Didn't see any of you on there - most of the coverage was London.

I was moved by Michael Watson's achievements(as ever). What an inspiration!

Ada took some photo's - and finger's crossed they should be available very shortly!

Zoo sounded fun LE. Hope you're off for an early night. Looking forward to hearing about your run tomorrow. Go girl!

Hi Allie...look forward to the pictures. We took some too, but my camera is out of battery so I can't look at them.

Glad you enjoyed your mile...we were thinking of you. We also missed the coverage. We saw the cameras, and I must say...I steared clear, sorry!

Ok, so I wasn't paying attention when you lot carefully typed in those instructions for creating things in bold, itallics or with underline, and I really got lost off when you spoke about creating links...

So, After a bit of jiggery-pokery with the source code I think this might work...

    Here's hoping...

(It is after the watershed isn't it?)

A very quick Hi after my longer post just vanished!
I haven't been able to get on line since 1st July due to a severe thunderstorm here causing damage.
Now have to take our son off to get on his coach to set off for Sweden. Sniff, sniff.
Back to try and catch up and update you tomorrow.
Never mastered the art of the bold and italics myself either Allien.

    night, night all x

    Morning all.

Arrived home suitably tired and merry at 2am so the children staying in bed until 7 was a real blessing! Mykey is still in bed but will be up shortly because he has to take Joe to a party by 10am so I promised him a little lie in.

We had a wonderful night. There was a fairytale theme and there were all sorts of characters from Alice in Wonderland, Narnia, Hansel and Gretel's Gingerbread cottage (complete with chocolate fountain! I had to drag Mykey away from that.) and a man on stilts breathing fire! We went on a carousel and danced and danced! The food was superb and the wine and champagne were flowing. We met lots of friends and only left because we were too foot sore and tired to stay!

Hope you milers have all recovered.

Nice to hear from you Mistymorn - thought we'd lost you! Hope your son has a great time in Sweden. We loved it there.

Off to make a cuppa and settle down on the sofa for a nice nap, I think.

Lovely photos, Allie! We have one photo which we'll post later and we got a professional one done there.

Well done, Dan. You may not have been motivated but at least you got up and went. Well done you.
