I will do my best to have the pirate puncture in Austria, but I can't guarantee it.
My bike shop man says he's got some new stuff like gunk, but you put it in if you get a puncture and it inflates the tyre and seals the hole. I'll be getting some of that before I go.
wifey - that stuff's rubbish. i suppose it's hard to know whether i had some unknown punctures that it fixed. but the time it did puncture and didn't seal the holes weren't big. it just squirted the gunk all over the road and tyre.
Roth has a cutoff of 9:30 after swim and bike for individual competitors and 8:45 for relay racers. Isn't IMDE 10 hours to complete the 1st two elements?
i posted this last year. on refelction perhaps candy has a point about me being anal :-)
anyway, this year pay attention :-0
From last year: Given I've been generally fretting about cutoff times I thought I'd post this. I hope I got the maths right. I'm not so good at maths.
Cut Off-Times From the race literature posted on the IMDE site [snip] The following cut off times apply for the different race portions and for the entire race: Swim: 2 hours 20 minutes Swim and 1st loop of Bike Course: 5 hours 45 minutes Swim and Bike: 10 hours Swim, Bike and Run: 16 hours after the Racestart [ end snip ]
So, completing the first loop entails riding 12km to Frankfurt and completing one of the two 84km loops. Therefore swim and 96km (12km + 84km) to be completed in 5 hours 45 minutes. 1 kilometers = 0.621371192 miles So,96 * 0.62 = 59.6 miles - call it 60 miles - Swim and 60 miles of the bike to be completed in 5 hours 45 minutes.
If you are out of T1 in: 1h 15 then bike at 13.3 mph to meet cutoff at end of lap one. 1h 30 then bike at 14.1 mph to meet cutoff at end of lap one. 1h 45 then bike at 15 mph to meet cutoff at end of lap one. 2hours then bike at 16 mph to meet cutoff at end of lap one. 2h 20 then bike at 17.3 ish mph to meet cutoff at end of lap one.
If we just make the "Swim and 1st loop of Bike Course: 5 hours 45 minutes" cutoff then we have 4h 15minutes to complete the remaining 52 miles of the bike leg at a sedate 12.2 mph.
Looking now at the whole swim and bike leg in 10 hours: Out of T1 in 1h 15 then you have 8h 45 minutes to complete the bike leg at a speed of Out of T1 in 1h 30 then you have 8h 30 minutes to complete the bike leg at a speed of Out of T1 in 1h 45 then you have 8h 15 minutes to complete the bike leg at a speed of Out of T1 in 2hours then you have 8 hours to complete the bike leg at a speed of Out of T1 in 2h 20 then you have 7h 40 minutes to complete the bike leg at a speed of *BUT of course we won't meet the first lap cutoff times then! So we'll have to pedal faster for the first 60 than we do for the last 52. It's an anti negative splitters course for cutoff cruisers!
Looking now at the whole swim and bike leg in 10 hours: Out of T1 in 1h 15 then you have 8h 45 minutes to complete the bike leg at a speed of 12.8mph * Out of T1 in 1h 30 then you have 8h 30 minutes to complete the bike leg at a speed of 13.2mph * Out of T1 in 1h 45 then you have 8h 15 minutes to complete the bike leg at a speed of 13.6mph * Out of T1 in 2hours then you have 8 hours to complete the bike leg at a speed of 14mph * Out of T1 in 2h 20 then you have 7h 40 minutes to complete the bike leg at a speed of 16.6mph * *BUT of course we won't meet the first lap cutoff times then! Comments
Thats only 16mph.
with so many of us doing Austria it's inevitable that someone will puncture. Usually it's cougie. But he's going to Germany.
Tee hee hee Mellifera - I'm sure Austrian roads are much better !
Roth website now showing 21.9c.
What are my chances of getting through Austria without one?
just not to the ones that Cougs uses
but we'll be on new wheels (hed jets) and new tyres

So you have to the swim and around 97km in 5.45.
So you have to do the swim and around 96km of the bike in under 5.45.
I think it is even further on then that, I seem to remember the stick from the lake being about 17k so the cut off was nearer 100k
anyway, this year pay attention :-0
