The tour of britain route comes through my village and will be going twice up caerphilly moutain this year where you get a great view of the mountain slowing them down.....unfortunately we will be on our way to nottingham..so as well as missing IMW I will miss the Tour
Unlucky, got a day off Frdiay to watch the tour, then down to Tenby on Saturday to volunteer for the swim and bike. Fingers corssed for good weather for those lazing around watching all day . Day off on Monday to recover.
Thanks for the map re Wiseman's Bridge. It seems as though the map I was looking at had the words 'Wiseman's Bridge' off the bike route giving the impression the bike route went around it
@SA RE Wetsuit: I was planning on doing exactly as you described (semi-unsuit) but saw plenty of people in video on the first wave of early swimmers to fully unsuit. I am now also doubtful.
Definitely a separate pair of trainers, SA. You don't want to start your run in a pair of soaking wet pumps, do you? Wetsuit off... half off.... tied round my neck like a Superman cape.... I'll go with the flow. Haven't done enough of these for a concrete plan.
Physio gave me a good beasting yesterday. Ultrasound, massage , and Inferentials (which are so nice that it's almost worth getting injured for ). Leg feels bruised from it today, but it'll be OK. Due back there tomorrow for a bit more work and some K-Tape, which I'm sure will be cool, but will clash terribly with my colour scheme.
Current plan to do the Saturday evening swim session and then straight into the race brief at De Valence. Anybody else doing either of those? I'll wear my Pirate T-Shirt in case anybody wants to say "hi".
Im prob not going to the race brief (dont tell the organisers), ive been to quite a few and find them to much of a chore, by the time you add up the time and hastle of going vs what valuable informaiton you find out its not really worth it. Id rather chill out and relax.
On Sat im hoping to get to Tenby about 11am, will register and rack, hope to bump into lots of you but im not sure what im doing other than that. Might go and watch the practise swim/go for a paddle (not swimming).
As our hotel is right above the swim and Mrs SA will be at the top of the hill by the shoe transition, can i give my wettie, hat and goggles or would this be classed as outside assistance?
Tension building in the STIL camp. The kids returning from school with colds have been quarantined and I have been sent out for additional vitamin C
I am trying to plan both my spectating and a fun day for the kids. Scmunks and Mrs SA I will pm you my mobile number as I would like to catch up during the day with a pirate pose.
Just catching up, RE: wetsuit I have practiced that and running with the wetsuit taken off and around my neck with another pair of trainers which seemd to work ok. I also had a small can of coke to get the sea water taste out of my mouth.
Plus the you will get more support wearing the yellow and black kit.

so today i will largely be shirking work and trying to crack through my to do list ... some little things like "get gears working " that i feel better get some attention ..
Heading to Tenby tomorrow .. Who else is staying at Kiln Park this year ?
I dont think it'll be as windy as last year though, it was a struggle to walk in some of the gusts on the Saturday, luckily the wind dropped on Sunday, also a lot of the bike course is reasonably sheltered.
Reasonably sheltered, until you ride past a gap in the hedge when you get blown across the road, judging from some of last year's race reports.
I'm not going for a time, so I don't really mind what the conditions are unless they stop me finishing. The rougher the conditions the better the race reports will be!

Couple of questions for all those competing
Wetsuit off at shoe transition or top bit pulled off as run to bike transition, then the rest?
Trainers at shoe transition, same trainers for the run or different ones?
Hope its good news from the physio STIL

I think you have to have different shoes for the run between the swim and the bike transition as they're going to end up going into a different bag.
Pingu is spot on. Better explained than the race pack.

My wetsuit will be off straight away, it comes off much quicker that way and the run to T1 will be easier.
Good luck to everyone taking part this weekend. I hope the wind is behind you
Thanks Lea

I have PM'd you with my supporting intentions and my mobile number
You may wish to discuss this with The Boss
I think it would be classed as outside assistance, SA, but you can always ask at the briefing, you're unlikely to be the only one with that idea.
Good luck to everyone - as you pass me (if you are actually behind me) I'll be giving the chant of Go Pirate Go so tell me to HTFU
Schmunks and Iron Muffin - yeah must all meet up
I ran with my wetsuite down to my waist - that was fine
Good luck for the race.
Enjoy the swim
Pace the bike well.... you can always hammer it on lap 2.....
Enjoy the run.
Feast on the fish amd chips at the end
Thanks OC. Catch you guys soon. Off to bed and train tomorrow morning!

Schmunkee - I preferred the first weather forcast you posted
Thats better than it was showing yesterday, 'Storm Chance' was showing as 10-15% and I think the wind speed will be higher?
It'll be what it is, but we could be in for a choppy swim again

I don't like rough or windy.....but it can't be worse than last year, can it?
