Entry for this event nearly full, looking to extend limit this week to 450 also looking at nearby Military base for shuttle bus to venue and back approx three miles. Watch this space
im signed up,me and 4 others. Whats the course like, for example inclines and scenery? looks a decent race and will keep me out running in december with something to look forward to
Boothy - course is very flat, just gentle inclines. There are crossings of the motorway bridge which are fine IMO and there is a sharp little bridge that you cross with a mile or two left. There is a long straight to the finish where you can get a decent sprint in. I beat my PB there by about three seconds or something last year. Nice race IMO.
Entry now 400, very close to limit and closure. Park & Ride scheme will be in operation, 2.5 miles from venue (10minutes by Free bus service) Will be well signed from approach to Catforth
Central Lancashire New Year Half Marathon. A Park and Ride system will operate from nearby HMS Inskip just 2.5 miles away.(can't miss hight radar masts) to eliviate crowded road in Catforth, limited parking in area. The double decker will operate a shuttle service with three pick ups at 08.00am/08.30am & 09.00am. Plenty of room in the village hall for 450+ to collect numbers (postal entries will be sent out), good baggage area, plenty of toilets on site.
Cheers. To be honest, I don't find it fun at all. I find it frustrating as I can't run at my normal pace with my normal stride pattern. It's challenging but not in a fun way!
SB - a couple of years ago this event was postponed due to the severe ice. Personally, I find it NO FUN at all running in fear of slipping over. Last year it was very cold and there was a bit of ice near the start but it was ok.
There is always a rist of postpnement of events during December through to March as we experienced in 2011 with the new year half (once in 7 years on this course isn't too bad) We have taken steps to look at the course on all three days leading up to 6th january 2013 and have aranged gritting on vulnerable corners and start area. If in the event of postponement we have penciled in two dates for a re arranged event. 27th January (probably unlikeley as end of January is usually bad) or 10th March 2013, medical and all support staff have been informed of this date.

I did the Guys 10 mile in the area yesterday and there was a bit of patchy ice about, first time I've run a road race in icy conditions. You just had to watch your footing and use a bit of common sense, but if there was widespread ice on the roads around there it wouldn't be much fun and there's no doubt it would hamper your running style and your time, especially so for the quicker runners. Additionally, it's very much farming country around there and you can get quite a lot of muck/mud/slurry etc on the lanes, which is a bit of a bugger when it's freezing!
It is a nice part of the world to run though, lovely views of the Bowland Fells to enjoy if it's clear, and relatively quiet roads. Plenty of good country pubs for afterwards too
I've only ever entered FCT events online, but whenever I've emailed a query I normally get a very quick response indeed, so it may be worth emailing them.
We have an entry from a Peter Hindson Huddersfield, is this yourself ???? No SAE enclosed with entry on this one, an email sent with final instructions to all entrants. Number picj up on day.
You can download final instructions on fyldecoastrunning.org
Thanks, he is my 17 year old son, his 1st half...I only do marathons but will be there on the day....the day after a marathon in Milton Keynes. Thanks.
if you did not receive your final instructions by email on entry(sometimes goes into spam box) you can down load from fyldecoastrunning.org go to 2013 events, scroll down to event (first one) click on runners info

Not sure i'll be well enough or fit enough
I've never run a winter event before. What happens if it's very icy? Will it still go ahead or will it likely be cancelled?
that would depend on its severtiy id say
running long distance on icey roads is fun, just takes a bit of juggling thats all

hi SB
no, nor can i , but when i run in ice, ( solo - which is rare now a days tbh ) i just see it as a day out doing what we do thats all
and yes as you state, - it makes it a challenge -
Thanks TET, as I expected then. I'll be keeping a keen eye on that forecast come the new year.
