I'm running my first half marathon on Sunday in Lichfield. I received a letter today containing a piece of paper in which I have to fill in my personal details, at a guess under some foam on the paper there is the chip, it says on the strip of foam "Do not remove". But there is no race number.
So will i get a race number on the day? And what is this piece of paper? It says on the piece of paper for details to go stuweb.co.uk but thats not much help. Thanks, Ant.

Cos that sounds an awful lot like a race number to me ?
If its blank - then take a magic marker to it. They usually put your race number online or on the envelope ?
i'd love not to have a race number. annoying, fiddly beasts. one of the reasons i love parkrun.
Theres no visible race number on the paper or envelope. I have realised there are 2 bits of strip foam, both say "do not remove". So i'm guessing its under one of those bits of foam.
I don't have a fabric race number either so I guess I'll be given that on the day? will I have to buy some safety pins or do you think I'll be given some?
Thanks,
Ant.
The piece of foam sounds very much like the timing chip I had on the back of my Reading half race number, so I definitley wouldn't take it off....
The website says they will be posted out
It does sound like the race number with the chip embedded in it - most races use a separate plastic chip that goes on your shoe, but I did a race recently that had something similar to what you described.
Is the other side of personal details sheet blank, or does it have some markings on it? I guess its possible that it somehow managed to go through the production process and miss the printing of the number? Give the organisers a ring
If its not printed on the flip side - as Stu says - they've messed up. Ring them.
I'd get my own safety pins - they're always handy.
The other side of the paper says Lichfield Half Marathon then there are 4 "downward lines" underneath. I reckon the lines are my number which hasn't printed. I will have to phone them for the number, and perhaps use a marker pen to write it on. Thanks, Ant.
Definitely sounds like the foam bit is the chip, I had this in the Edinburgh Marathon. As to the lack of number on the flip side I would call them.
I phoned the race organiser, he asked me to send him a pic via text message and he said he'd get back to me. Not sure how many have been affected. Will have to see what he says.
Ok mystery solved, i'm a bit red in the face, the race organiser said I won't embarass you any further...my race number is 1111
Still red in the race!
LOL
"4 downward line underneath" - perhaps your number is 1111?
LOL

Still laughing, i can be such a plank lol
I was going to suggest that when i was reading the above posts

Good luck in your race Ant.
I now have my amusing story to tell regarding the race! lol
and the race organisers will be looking out for you

Brilliant! Well done for owning up and all best at your race.
It's not just you, for a race last year, I removed my chip from the bib then carefully attached it to my trainer and then had to do a Blue Peter "sticky backed plaster" repair when put right...
(All together now "Four lines on my shirt, Jules Rimet still gleaming.."
