The issue is now being blown out of all proportion, I agree with that. Perhaps I was to vociferous in making my points yesterday. Whilst I fear a further bottom smacking, ill try and clarify, but realise im potentially treading the hazardous path of Ctrl v.
Im not saying who should and shouldn’t race in pirate kit, ive never criticised Rosey for the sponsorship logo, it was a one off. But I don’t see anyone in favour of sponsorship on kit.
I still stand by the thrust of my argument but realise I may have jumped to conclusions, im afraid the concept wasn’t explained clearly, and a number of factors compounded that.
Looking at it from a non race team perspective, ive read phrases like leverage pirate brand, discounts and sponsorship, ive seen the kit Joddly used at Kona. Yesterday I looked at the Buccaneers website and saw banner adverts and if im honest what really put the wind in my sails was the Meridian advert and the comments ‘nut butters and fruit spreads are to die for’.
I now understand a lot of this is misunderstanding, the site was is in development but I reacted to what I saw.
Clearly this is being discussed amongst the pirate race team members and I applaud that not everyone is in favour of advertising. I wasn’t aware of that, but was aware of Joddly’s willingness to race at Kona in free redesigned kit, that compounded by the adverts led me to wonder where the lines were drawn?
I am not having a pop at the Buccaneer concept, I support it. Ive said this countless times. Im not against getting discounts for Buccaneers and Pirates, FFS ive arranged race entry discounts and freebies for pirates myself.
Unless im mistaken not all the Buccaneers are in favour of the advertising? I just cant see why its needed, if the discounts are available via doing magazine pieces etc. For me this is the thin end of the wedge.
I thought most of us did this for fun and that includes room for those with sub 10 ambitions. For me the fun is about giving, supporting, all in it together, Buccaneer or otherwise.
People have and do give a lot of time contributing to the pirates in all sorts of ways, we pride ourselves on support. If you add commercialism/advertising into the equation and it proliferates and is perceived that a minority are benefitting I think you risk losing the support of the majority, people who are happy to give their time to help out at feedstations etc. If that happens we could lose everything which is special (to me at least) about being a pirate, if thats being sanctamonious then so be it.
I shall reserve judgement for now and seem to be in a minority of one.
I'm just frustrated that I recently paid 54 quid for a two year subscription to the magazine when I now see I could get it for a tenner a year through British Triathlon. Doh. Almost 35 quid wasted. I could have spent that money on nut butter. Then I'd be really fast
And is fruit spread sort of like jam or sort of not?
There was a commons debate on just that...what a waste of time and money (it's down to the sugar content)
As for nut butter, I use Shea nut butter to stop chaffing (seriously) and have done for years. I bought a jar in 2007 and it's still going strong, I wouldn't put it on toast though
is that like when the moon gets in the way of the sun and then it goes dark but not all at once and then there is a diamond ring and all the birds go to sleep and it's really weird and cold but then only for a minute or so before the sun comes back and you can't look at it with your eyes, you have to look through something to protect your eyesight or even project an image of the sun on to a card or something...or is it like an oval shape made by a point moving in a plane but not on a plane such that the foci is constant or even its made when a cone is cut at an angle, but that angle isn't so angled that it cuts the base...

Oy - leave my nipples out of this!

What is "Nut Butter"? Does it stop chaffing?
A correctly positioned goat?

Now *that* was funny!

Does it matter which nut you use?
The left one seems to get in the way more.
Goat nut butter?
And is fruit spread sort of like jam or sort of not?
Butter nut squash ?

God no, I wouldn't put that on toast, it's 6 years old!
Chafing. ChaFing. There's only one F in chafing...
There's more than one F when I get into the shower afterwards...
There was only one full stop at the sentence when I went to skool.
can you remember that far back?
Who threw that?
Wasnt me, im sweet and innocent...
It's an ellipsis, innit!
isit?...
itis. . .
If it's an itis, you need to put some cream on it
and we're back to nut butter
I was only going on what CD told me! It's still all his fault, y'know!
If we are discussing ellipses.................or whatever
