Might have to take a head torch tbh - getting lost out in the bush this time of year running bare could be prolonged effort for not much gain
I usually find a plank strapped to my arse, a long length of rope attached to the plank, and a miners lamp gets me out of even the deepest, dampest holes.
Ah the Virgin Marathon - awkward, nervous, shaky and the final push can be slightly painful but after youve done your first one you can go out for a beer with your mates and boast about what an easy ride it was and you fancy doing two back to back next time
One of my pet hates is, when April comes round, seeing all these celebrities from Holby City or GMTV puffing and panting on my TV screen. I certainly don't like it when Hazel Irvine interviews them half way through.

How odd, I'm trying to post a smiley and it won't let me
try this one instead

can anyone suggest a popular marathon event for first-timers?
Skotty: aim big, go for an ultra.
are there any benefits to shaving body hair before the big event?
It depends on how much you have - anything that's likely to get tangled may need to be tied up.
I find a banana helps before I get going, and have gel handy in case things get rough halfway through.
Is nobody going to mention the virgin marathon?
Having your name shouted during the sprint finish almost guarantees a more satisfying result.
I always get a big cheer when i dress up in a costume.
having someone else's shouted puts you right off your stride though.
hitting the wall can be painful though so watch your aim
Complaining about the post-event memento never goes down well, although a t-shirt with the names of everyone who entered might be welcome.

after doing a full one though a half doesn't seem to satisfy
Ha ha ha, please stop!
Previous entires and winners should always be discolsed prior to the event
When running, don't think about length or speed - concentrate on quality.
I think pace is quite important - you want a negative split.
A sudden pull out or swerve for water or a toilet break could ruin your chances
Does the one who comes first get a medal? Or are there special prizes for a second place?
havenb't you learnt the technique of peeing without stopping or changing pace
If the discussions on RW are anything to go by, some people enjoy taking part with their dogs.
Strapped to their waist no less
Sometimes when i've performed particularly well, people don't believe me until i post videos online.

Obama is a very good runner. He usually manages to come before the first lady.
