YIKES! just checked my cheque stubbs and mine was cashed on 29th October. Think I bequeathed it but honestly can't remember! Can't bear the suspense! What does this mean?!!
Re. Dublin - have just had a reply email from Leisure Pursuits Group with their details for Dublin packages if anyone's interested can email it on to them.
Feel better already and I've not even been rejected yet!
FLM cheque cashed 22nd November. First time application not bequethed. Im not so smug though as I wrote a cheque for my pal as well as myself and I didnt mark the stubs.
Am definitely doing Dublin next year - went this year but couldn't run due to injury......that was almost unbearable. I promised myself I wouldn't go and watch but I couldn't keep away, hence next year. Meanwhile, still awaiting the post here in windy Devon. Trouble is, post doesn't arrive till after I've gone to school so I have to wait till I get back. The suspense is horrendous.
I was planning an Autumn marathon too & Dublin sounds great. Went over just for a visit this year and it was dead cheap. Don't bother with tour operators and I wouldn't bother with the ferry either a crowd from our club got stranded one year whenit was cancelled and had to rush to get planes over. Nick B, thanks for the info from FLM. I'm not in quite such a panic about the post now.
Utterly dejected! Unsuccessful Mag just arrived and I am now trawling through the charities!! 'Flippin fleecy doesn't even fit!! Ah well, DETERMINED to run, and raise the monbey for whoever will have me!!
Good Luck to Long Legs, thanks for the message! I have started trawling through the charities and its a question of loads of application forms and waiting now! On wiht the training!!
What a morning, I trawled through the mag and picked out 3 charities close to my heart! And, lots of phone calls, e-mails etc and I am delighted to say I HAVE A GUARANTEED PLACE!!!! WOW! I am so excited and really keen to start the fundraising and training! I am running for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, which is v close to my heart as my mum worked with Roy Castle in years gone by, and both my Grandads died of Lung Cancer. I AM INSPIRED and now off to gym to begin training! So, don't be too downhearted if you recieve rejection - just fo for it as demand for bonded places will get higher as days go by, I am now wearing my fleece with pride - even if it is on large side; and beginning to tell everyone I know what I will be doing on 13th April 2003, in my grandads' memory. xx
I got in last year throught the ballot and raised £2800 for a charity who offered me a golden bond place this year. When I phoned up to see if my Brother in Law could take my Gold Bond place (his chq wasn't cashed) they had forgotten me! Good news is that they have agreed to put him on the top of thier list. Bad news- no news from postman but even if I do get in I probably won't be able to run as my wife will probably be having major surgery in January so Ill be needed at home for up to three months incase of problems with the kids etc. instead of out on the streets.
Good luck all of you. I may be on the course somewhere with my 7 year old since if I can't run Ill offer my services as a volunteer. Failing that Ill be in my URWFRC kit dishing out oranges or sweets.
Nothing here either so another long wait till tomorrow night. Good on yer JF. Good to hear something positive coming out of rejection. Makes me think I may do the same.
Please guys & gals I urge you all to do the same as Julie has done if you don't get in through the ballot. (I'm seriously not going to get into the argument of why charities have places, why they pay for them, how many places they have it's up to the FLM and anyone should debate it with them if they want). However, whatever you think about charity places they know they can ask for average £1,000 because it's the only way for serious runners (ie you guys) to get in if they miss on the ballot.
So if you get that rejection magazine think about the charities that could give you a place and like JF think about ones that you really think you could believably raise money for. Save the Elks (joke charity) may have lots of places but would your friends really think you've suddenly developed a passion of saving elks and be prepared to hand over lots of cash.
Anyway, good luck all and don't forget about our site if you get a place, you're all online so use the internet to help you fundraise.
Sorry, but if i dont get in i WONT do a charity place i will run another marathon, for a charity, but not be pressurised to raise THAT kind of money Good luck to all of you who do go for the charity places you have richer friends than me, and more of them

I'll deffo be thinking about it post London.
Welcome to the club Julie :-)
Feel better already and I've not even been rejected yet!
Very easy to get in. Cheap flights with Ryanair. Go on Dublin tourist board website for mega cheap B&B's too.
All in all a good weekend which was very affordable!
Enjoyed the race much more than FLM.
It's much cheaper to go direct than with a tour operator. You'll end up paying double.

Think my B&B (very nice it was too) ended up as 2 nights for 2, double room with breakfasts - 20pppn!
Flights were cheap and cheerful too!
I reckon we might just see the first mags arriving tomorrow, if they have started sendingthem out on the 25th.
Watch out Postmen everywhere !
(and the house cat if you get the 'Sorry' letter !)
Nick B, thanks for the info from FLM. I'm not in quite such a panic about the post now.
JF and any others who's fleeces don't fit -- maybe you can arrange to trade with someone else on the forum that gets a fleece that doesn't fit.
Nice One

My posty has been, nothing yet, but that might be a good sign seeing as we haven't heard of a single Acceptance letter yet.
Im still waiting even if it is with the thought of requesting a deferrement until 2004!
