I put a coat, leggings and top in it and it was so uncomfortable. I will concede I probably need a size up but It just didn't sit well on me. Is that what you wore?
Yeah I used last years version with the bladder which takes up even more space than this years with the soft bottles. I wore shorts for the race, I know it says full leg coverings in the race brief but pretty much everyone toes the race line in whatever combo the weather dictates. As long as you have full body waterproofs you'll be fine
I certainly am a devotee to the wearing of shorts and that would always be my kit of choice. You don't need leggings and waterproofs in your bag then? I must admit I have only quickly scanned the kit list, too much going on in my wee head at the moment.
The race kit as far as I remember says you must have full leg coverings, some people went for 3/4 length tights, some full length tights, some shorts and calf guards and some just shorts. No one is going to drag you from the start line for just wearing shorts but you will need to have full waterproofs available in your pack
Hi Guys. I am planning to do a few "picnic nights" sessions on box hill over the coming months. Basically we rock up at box hill around 8pm on a friday and then run up and down boxhill (following the picnic marathon course) until sunrise.
Brutal hills and great practice for night running and staying awake for a long time.
There are some details on this facebook group and a poll to see what weeks oyu might be able to do. I hope to do one a month but no reason why someone else couldn't lead.
Dill - surprised you can't fit all the kit in the 12L pack. I've run several UTMB's (plus TdS, Verbier/St Bernard, & a few other races with the same kit requirements), and managed to get all the items into an Olmo 5L pack. Including, jacket, tights, trousers, long-sleeve top and all the other obligatory kit. Just needs a bit of careful packing imo (see pic - 2 x 500ml bottles on the front shoulder straps)
Dan I shall reserve further judgment until the larger size pack arrives. What I really don't want to do is get it all shoved in and have it like a beachball on my back. That sort of discomfort really plays on my mind during a race. So we shall see.
Where are you staying WiB? I managed to get a well expensive 3 star B&B in Chamonix. The Langley hotel I believe.
Sooo, its 8 points for 2015 entry. I hope this doesn't bugger up anyone's plans too much if you have already booked races or races you need are already full.
Was also quite surprised that points gained in 2012 at UTMB, TDS or CCC will be valid for 2015 entry. Have I read this correctly??!
8pts is still in 3 races though and realistically you need to have tackled something as difficult as a 4 pointer before this I'd say (and 2 x 2 pointers in prep) - or at least a 2, 3, 3 combo over the two years previous.
Whats more important is the makeup of the 2 - 4 pointer you use. A lot of flat/undulating British 4 pointers, good for the distance, but worth getting the rest of the points from really hilly events! The biggest single continuous - or near enough - ascents/descents in UTMB, TDS at least are as big or bigger than Ben Nevis. So hill training is second to none.
Agreed with DE, there really is no substitute for hills prepping for the race, and consider long days hill walking as decent training days, try to get out onto the lakes or Snowdonia/Brecons and get some time on feet
Right I've got my poles just need to practice with them now. Feel a bit of a twat running uk races with them though. May have to go out in the middle of the night so no-one sees me.
Lucky you Cragchick, not had a drop of the white stuff all winter long. Sounds like a few possible solutions there to get you back on track, best of luck.

Are you doing the MCN event in March? I've signed up, need to stop all these flat races.
Not sure yet, I hadn't really looked past last weeks race so other than the NDW I haven't booked anything, probably will, it's one of my favourites

Great training for UTMB and similar events.
I got all the compulsory kit plus some extra layers (for the bad weather in 2012) into the Salomon Slab12.
I am taking the SLAB 5 or the new Inov-8 vest. It will have to fit
I think i'll send it back and go for the bigger size. It comes too highly rated just to dismiss.
Btw well done WiB at Canterbury. That was fast!
Cheers mate.
Got accom booked for Chamonix now. The only thing left to do is a bit of running and soem eating

If I can't get it in a 3ltr pack I'm just going to wear it.

Everybody else seems to have their room booked!
Guess I should get my backside into gear!
We have booked a flat for a handful of us in Chamonix.
Can one buy into this setup?

Bee - yes you have. Points you get on any of the UTMB events are valid for 3 years rather than the 2 for all other races.
Lake, cheers! Just looked at the 2014 entry page and yep it always seems to have been that way. Never noticed!
It would have changed what races I booked for this year had I realized!
Well CC if you don't get into the UTMB next year there's a space on a PTL team if you want it?

So 3 x 3000's would be excellent Cragchick, if you get enough points. Best of luck with niggles.
PTL 2020 for me
