Got me thinking now - not about red bull (very wise response from SA there) - race numbers with forum name on? Some tape for a couple of people to hold to run through as finishing line? Party poppers for first and last finishers?
More than happy to look at a different bike route, we chose that one because apart from the start and finish its all left hand turns with no junctions / lights etc to stop you and the roads are fairly quite.
i think if you can find a longer loop that has the same plus points then fine...but if you can't find the quiet roads with left hand turns then you are best leaving it as it is......better for supporters to have them come around more often
I have to say although at times it was a bit of a drag going round the course. As a supporter it was great to have regular contact with the athletes especially with two quite small fields. We will be back next year hopefully with mrs m taking part.
Just a quick note to say a big thank you for making Helen and me so welcome at the weekend. Once we got past the northern translation issues we had a blast and I'm sure H will be taking part next year. Finally a huge thank you to Mr and Mrs SA and Junior for being excellent hosts thank you thank you thank you. I will try and write a race report in the next few days. M
You mean you were from the other place. If any good as a southerner who moved up north if you ever have similer problems again just smile say yes and then point at the nearest gregg's works every time.
SA I'm thinking if you want to open up your home so we can all play again you won't to change a thing lap counter's or a timer are both brilliant idea's but the inportant thing is to be all you can be. Sorry I missed out this year was just because of the date clash and think that will be the same for a few people. If it's no next year I'll be well up for it. I might even finesh it for once.
FWIW I thought the route was pretty good. Like you say, SA, there were no right hand junctions once on the loop, which made it quite a fast course. Also the roads were generally traffic-free which was a bonus.
Anyway, if you change it, I'll only end up getting lost again!
A longer route might make marshalling more difficult, extra signs needed etc. I thought it was fine when I did it last year and good mental toughness. It was also motivating when I got tired to aim for just one more lap so ended up doing the full distance when I wasn't sure I would.
i also like the route.....it went quicker this year than last.because i had soupy's corner, soupy's downhill followed by soupy's uphill.followed by SA's corner and downhill and uphill ......
I do have to say (even though i was cursing after only 5 laps!) i would like the bike course to stay the same next year. Its all left turns, no need to stop for traffic or any traffic lights. Its a great mental challenge, churning out 12 laps
Waiting to find out from the leisure centre when they get the bookings for the galas they have there, but hoping to have something in place by the start of September
We are at the beck and call of the leisure centre with respect to dates, they have a lot of galas on at that time of year (only 8 lane pool in the county) so it will all be down to them, I checked on Friday and it is now that they start taking the bookings for next years galas, so by mid August we should know which dates the pool will be available

I could get a Red Bull t-shirt if that would help
I only have two words for you Seren: AYE RIGHT!!!!!
How about a longer, less loopy bike route? I'd be happy to help you research it

I really like the bike route too - my car got up those hills quite easily.
Also the run passes the co-op so you can nip in for a mid-lap donut. What's not to love???
Fair enough, I'll shut up
There was also a chip shop on run route. Although they seemed to be selling chips and gravy which was just weird.
sorry had to google that!
