Tallington lakes on South Lincs/North Cambs border... its also a spring fed gravel lake, so the water is always really clean, and as its only 6' to 10' deep, gets nicely warm quickly... all good stuff!
lets be honest.... its all prep for an Ironman on my 100th birthday
Beth, that's my usual swim venue, I swam there when it was 13c and got a brain freeze, cant imagine how cold 9.8c feels
Bizarrely Razor, it felt like burning - it's a sensation I've never experienced before, so was brain freeze, now I understand how it feels! They only had a 200m course open.....it was the quickest I've ever swam 200m"" Hopefully it'll get warmer soon.
I was at boundary last night, it was surprisingly pleasant at about 16 degrees. Much warmer than the air temperature!!!
Razor - I will keep my eyes open.
Funnily enough, there were a good few pirate swim caps there last night and I was soooooooooooo tempted to shout AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHH as they motored past me, but then thought better of it in case I looked like a dick!!!!
Lovely swim at Thorpe although I'd forgotten how difficult sighting is there and stuck to the 400m loop when I completely lost the bouy and got a bit disorientated. 2 laps so not too shabby considering it was only 13C. Glad I was told that when I got out lol or I wouldn't have gone it.
Back on Tuesday evening for a 750m circuit - hopefully x 2. I'm liking this swimming malarky.
It should be easier sighting in the evening, I kept losing the buoy in the sun! Still, that is a pleasant problem to have rather than not being able to see it because of rain.
My thoughts exactly but not helped by the buoys being not only small but blue. I'll stick to sighting off the tall trees then playing hunt the buoy every so often. All adds to the fun. See you tues
Good to see you both, albeit very briefly. It definitely felt colder today than it did two weeks ago. Managed 2 mid loops and on short one though it took me most of the first one to get comfortable.
I tend to ignore the buoys for sighting cos I can't see them. The 750 buoy seems to be slight further over to the right at the moment so you can just head for the tip of the island. For the shorter loop I just sight on the trees and hope I spot the turn buoy before I get too far past it!
Had such a good swim today. Lucky enough to be invited to an informal lake session. There were a couple of buoys out but it was basically just swim where you want. Only about a dozen of us and so relaxing. I'm beginning to see the attraction of swimming in rivers etc rather than an organised lake. There were also 3 people practising for a world record attempt for the channel relay. Blimey they could swim!!!
The lakes are warming up nicely now. Hows everyone else doing?

Brr, sod that.
Should get there between 530 and 6 soupy. You don't have to swim Dustboy, you could be cheerleader or tea boy
We did Dock 9 at Salford Quays a few weeks ago - it was 9.8 degrees - I have never felt cold like it!!!! Brrrrrrrr
Boundary park starts this Thursday, can't wait to get back in - the pool is so dull in comparison (although much warmer.....)
You really need to get some saunas build by the lake sides then it's possible to go swimming in the winter as well.
Yep.... got that at my lake.... as well as a heated 25m pool and a really nice bar and restaurant.....
Oooh, sounds nice Magna. Where's that?

Yeah, I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit,
Me and Horse will be down there at some point, just look out for the yellow Pirate swim caps or for the bloke zigzag swimming that will be me
Boundry Park opens up tomorrow night. I'll be there
For any of the Essex clan, Trifarm near chelsford is amazing,
800 meter circuit lake
1km gravel path round the lake
10km marked bike route and raking for bike to practice transition.
Its a brilliant set up
Splash in the flash again last night......grey and windy (not me...the weather!).
Asked the guy is it still 14 degrees, he just smiled and said it was when the took the reading on sunny Tuesday!!
Hard work swimming into the little waves...made me think of Belize radio when they describe the sea as 'slight chop to choppy'!!
Going to try to drag myself over to Thorpe tomorrow morning. Looks like it could be warmer in the water than out
