I have made the decision to sign up for this next year and whilst I have a good idea of the distances and my ability I am struggling to get a feel for the times each section should be taking. I need an idea of the sort of ascent to expect on each of both the bike and running sections. If anyone is able to give me any indication as to what to expect it will help me massively with my trainIng.
Many thanks

It took me a little under 13hrs to complete (12.48 I think) which was much longer due to the weather. I did back to back long days training to prepare, my maximum road bike training distance was about 35 miles, maximum run distance about 14.5 miles. The most important piece of advice would be don't go out too fast, there is a huge hill at 100 miles in which you need to save a wee bit for...!! (I re-passed many people on that hill with a slightly smug face)
Oh and don't worry about the kayak sections as long as you have strong arms/shoulders you'll be grand!!
I'm a first timer too going for the 1 day as a pair with my brother. Just make sure that every time you get out on the bike for a long one, jump off and go for a run. Get used to the feeling as it's very different to 'just' running. Really looking forward to it!
Just joined the forum for this very reason, I have signed up for the 2 day race. Been cycling for the last 4 years but haven't been running for about 10. Started training last week, baby steps. Looking forward to having a goal to work towards.
thanks
Looking at doing this as a pair. Any tips
And travel plans be most welcome
Scotland is massive.
Now we're in 2015 I feel I need to start thinking about some specific training for this and wondered if anyone that has done it before can offer some advice about what worked for them.
Currently my reasonably hilly commute gives me exactly 70 miles a week on the bike (Monday to Friday ) and I run about 25 miles a week. This is just a base and I appreciate that I would have to do more than that at pace in one hit so just interested to hear some others experiences really.
cheers.
Great. luckily all my riding is with a pack and I do a very hilly cross country 9 mile run to work with a pack too. I'm happy that I could do the ride now but I'm very aware that the last run is a nasty one. I'm going to do it with my brother and we're travelling from Hastings! It's a long way to come so we want to make sure we finish!!

Good read! Thanks for that. Better get started then!
I did the 2 day version back in 2010 - it was a huge challenge for me at the time but probably one of the best things I've ever done, I had a blast! For me, the bit I found hardest was the off-road biking section because I really hadn't done anything that technical before (oh, and because the low range gears on the bike I hired up there weren't working properly).
Well thats the b+b booked in Fort Augustus. Don't fancy the camping!!
Hi Coast to Coasters, I signed up for this with a mate last week. Really looking forward to it and I've just found out I work with a guy that has done it twice before so I will getting as much info out of him as possible!
Anybody else on this thread doing the one day event?
Hello everybody!
My name is Stef and somebody told me about this race, so I signed up a while ago. I'm doing the 1 day event.
And I have a question: We are on a holiday trip (without a car) wile I do this race. Is there an oppurtunity for my husband to come from Nairn to the finish line at Glencoe on Saturday? I have not found a bus service or something like that.
Without a car would be difficult - are you ok to rack your bike at Cawdor the day before or are you hiring one ? I suppose a taxi will get you to T1 at least.
Best bet would be hooking up with another supporter - I know my wife drove from the start to the finish all by herself when I've done this. I'm sure people will help if they can.
How's everyones training going? My cycling's fine but the running.... not so much, in fact it's poor, no where near where I need to be. I suppose the wrong thing to do would be to try and get too many miles in.
Hi Cougie,
I'm hiring a bike. That part ist well planned.
Just the transfer on saturday morning for my husband is still open.
I check the bus schedules again or we just hire a cab if we can not find a lift with other supporters.
Training is going well, at least running. Cycling is still some work to do.
Or you could get a train from Nairn to Fort William and then its a 15 min taxi journey at the other end ?
Signed up as well for the two day event, training 5/6 days a week now. I'm in a team of two. We're looking forward to seeing what Scotland can throw at us. We're both happy with the bike, having both raced mtb for years, only been running around 18 months though.
How's everyone elses training going?
Bikes ok but the runnings not great, but looking forward to it.
Had a few days up in the mountains with the bike. Now a question which is the best bike to use on the coast to coast. cx or a mountain bike or something else?
Hello all v close now. All accom booked, training ok. Too late though to sign up for coach from the finish to the start on the Friday.
Dont fancy doing the journey on the Monday back to the start if at all possible.
Train goes via Glasgow!!
Anyone have any space /know anyone who can fit two lads and two bikes in?
Or know any other forums to post this in?
Cheers all
Kevin
Thanks for the info. Starting to panic a bit.
