Tried to take out my contact lenses on Saturday night but could only get the left one out - tried for half an hour to get the right one out but couldn't. Getting more and more frustrated I eventually went to sleep.
Woke up at 5am with a red swollen eye and blurred vision and still unable to get the lens out, I headed to A&E. After a 4 hour wait they poked around and couldn't find a contact lens in my eye! Double checked with my Optician on Sunday and the Moorfields Eye Hospital clinic at my local hospital yesterday, and no lens, just a sctratched cornea! Contact lens must have fallen out without me noticing.
Result! Just what I needed this week! Hopefully eye will be restored to full function by Sunday? May have to still be wearing a patch until later this week - which will set off my pirate kit nicely!
Anyone with experience of Operation Stack know if it will affect traffic into Dover? I don't want to book another crossing if I can't actually get into the port
Mouse- I'm valid through to the end of the month so no worries on that score. If I renew before I go I'll get put into a draw for some Garmin shiny things. Gingers crossed for you HC and a speedy recovery to ByF.
First and second items on the forgotten list - piratey prezzy and foreign currency.
Mouse, happily K (who it turns out I do know just didn't have contact details has popped up on FB). Plan B ferry booked for 4am. Keep fingers and toes crossed.
Sadly we are booked on the ferry of doom ironically with Meldy's bike in the van. She's a witch that one.
Oh I'm sorry but that really is funny........curse of Meldy strikes again If I'd known you were stuck mind you, you could have popped into mine for a cuppa (I'm only 20 miles up the coast!!)
Mind you...........as I'm travelling with her on Thursday maybe I shouldn't be so cheerful about said curse.......
Fucking hilarious really, oh, just realised it's not, especially when other overnight halts of the remainder of the journey are booked based on ferries and tunnel crossing timings.
I wear a lens in one eye when taking part in events and it is a pain (in the eye!!) if it slips to the back of the eyeball when trying to dig it out and you wake up with a Count Dracular eyeball - still, have a spare on the other side I can use if needed though!
Strike due to end this evening and the ferry companies are expert at catching up with themselves as Calais is frequently blockaded one way or another.......
Still a right royal pain in the bum though (all joking aside...........)
Dunkirk has extra sailings and the Eurotunnel has also been laying one extra trains although they also had issues with migrants trying to storm the tunnel at Coquelles this morning.........
Well our road relay series leg 4 fell victim to the strike as so many clubs were struggling to get to Samphire Hoe (edge of Dover) to race.........but on the plus side the port and tunnel are both open again no so hopefully nobody will need to resort to Meldy's dodgy small boats................
I just wanted to wish everyone going out to race this weekend a load of good mechanical and bodily luck - whether you're going out to just get a medal or aim for glory.
I'll be keeping a close eye on the tracker this weekend so don't let us down. I look forward to finishing photos, stories and news of the pirate party on monday. Have fun and race strong.
PS. Can I put a vote in for Gom please? I don't think I need to tell you which award this is for.

Once I've killed her, I'll join you Flyaway
So I had an interesting weekend!

Have managed to pack though - so that's a bonus!!

Happychap - do you know Foxy's friend K. who works in Dover? (I don't like to post her full name.) She may be a useful contact?
BYF - I scratch my cornea recently and the wonder cream they gave me settled in down in a few days. I hope it's the same for you.
I don't Mouse.
Bob - as a fellow contact lense wearer I hope it improves rapidly. I'll be putting spare lenses in all my kit bags in case I lose any during the race.
Safe journey to all those travelling today!
Ah, that's a shame Happychap. The only knowledge I have of it is based upon Radio 2 travel information. I'm sorry

Sorted insurance and need to book my travel currency. How much is a bier in Klagenfurt ? Is it oodles or cheap Hope ?
I'll let you off, FeFe.
Happychap - excellent. I just saw that on FB. I thought you'd know her. Though obvs not excellent re the ferries.
Adds crossbow and axes to list of things to throw in the car.

Here's hoping it clears soon-ish
We can laaaaaugh about it when everyone is in Austria.
... and their bikes

Eurotunnel is suspended until further notice according to their website.
Tomorrow is open though.
Yep, they've had to close now too Symes........it's the migrants again trying to get into the tunnel I believe..........
Port due to reopen at 8pm (the French do like to get home for tea after a good day's strike....) but will take a bit of time to get going inevitably
Hope our travellers get away ok
Think we should destroy Meldy's cursed bike.
I'm sayin' nuffin .....
(not now, HC as my bike anyway ) !!
I'm actually going to leave it in a secret location never to be seen again (sorry Meldy - you're on the Carrera)
even if I clear the ports for you ?? I know a few small boats that know their way in to Dunkirk

Check in & through security at Heathrow T3!! Now having breakfast!
