I don't come from the Midlands, never lived in the Midlands, but hearing a couple of recorded interviews I've just done I sound like Kevin Rowland from Dexy's Midnight Runners. I mean, come on... (eileen)
Haha Poacher, such an accurate description of funders! A development worker does indeed develop things, in my case community activities. Which currently mainly involved sitting in a room writing funding bids. Blah.
The amount of paperwork and daft evaluation criteria required to keep one development worker at the coal face is staggering. Activity versus outcome
EVALUATOR: "the impact of your work will be judged according to the trainees' adoption of western-style liberal values and skills up to international standards"
DEVELOPMENT WORKER: "they are more likely to die of malaria or be shot by the police than to achieve such impossible aims in a fortnight"
EVALUATOR: "thats not what the funder wants to hear"
Oh you are paper based chuggers. Got it. It is amazing that there is money for these wacky projects when the tories are stripping community services to the bone.
Ric, I hate them. Fairly simple really. Nothing is giving me more pleasure than watching them preparing to rip themselves apart over Europe. By the time they are done they'll be unelectable.
Their cuts have just taken away a story and play session at my local library that my little one and lots of other children really enjoyed. Most of the parents are middle class Tory voters who weren't expecting their kids to be the scroungers that the Tory cuts would target. The parents deserve what they (don't) get but the kids are losing out for ideological reasons.
VDOT, you credit them (Tories) with more influence and power than they really have.
The cuts of which you speak are an accumulation of the results of the wishes of the electorate for the past 50 years.
It's simply really. The masses wanted a higher standard of living at infinitum. Either the Government of the day dished up or they (Government) were history at the next election.
So money gets borrowed to feed this wish, inflation results, people need paying more and so it goes on.
Now we are too expensive to live. We've priced ourselves out of existence.
No Government survives by revealing to the public how skint the public really is. Especially as it's self inflicted.
Don't blame Tories per se. The problem has surpassed politics. It's just an overall economic fuck up.

Dr Walker you are and absolute bloody legend and I could kiss you!
The incomprehensible Kevin Rowland! ?
Even with the lyrics at hand, you can't sort it out.
🙂
Geoff Stirling!
For fucks sake, you're a middle aged guy watching football on a laptop and you're absolutely wetting yourself.
Get a grip. What has Sky TV fed you? no one at your age can get that excited about something so predictable without being on something.
Calm down, you're an embarrassment.
🙂
"Team day" - could any two words be laden with more doom?
"Team week"?
"When you deliver the workshop, can you focus primarily on convergent synergies?"
You want a field drain dug through clay, in Feb, in snow? I'm on my way.
CONSULTANT "I'm trying to evaluate your work and whether your strategy is the right one."
ME "Do you think the fact that you're in America, I'm in Europe, and the job is in Africa will make this a little superficial?"
is it a big game job?
True. Luckily we don't have them
With all the rain we've had, digging through clay is rather like digging through butter atm. Just wish it was the right time to build with cob ha ha.
Dear funder,
Please stop asking the same question rephrased. I am sorely tempted to just copy and paste my answer to the previous question.
(Just give us your money, we're good at this.)
Yours,
Somewhat-jaded-development-worker
Develop?
Never thought I'd be looking forward to an arse full of needles but this thing is getting me down now.
Never heard the term funder before either but the post explains they are just a cash cow.
I am a development worker. I develop things, and own a mosquito net, plus a large supply of immodium.
Funders ask lots of questions, both sensible and pointless. If only they were simply cash cows.

Will you horrible cackling little girls learn to shut the friggin gate behind you.
VDot, what's this Tory obsession of yours about?
🙂
I am totally wasted - but at least it numbs the pain.
