I want to race and party with pirates. Really enjoyed being Sherpa & supporter at Mallorca.
Will be keeping a watching brief on this as if I end up going along solo the room costs are higher & I'll have no Sherpa support so it kind of makes things tougher for this back of pack pirate.
Want to support the championship event, but not end up on my own at an event.
I don't think we should be put off by the cut-off. About a dozen of us did Germany 2010 with a 15 hour cut-off, even with a non wetsuit swim and extension to bike course all (but I think one) finished.
The cut off will focus the mind, eliminate complacency and is still a long long time to swim/bike/run tge distance. Theres no reason with 11 months to prepare that anyone should fear 15 hours. Slower finishers can look at it as a gateway to faster times perhaps.
I won't be racing, but I do intend to go over and support and provide photographer services. But as I am currently learning a lesson the hard way, I will not be uploading the resulting 800+ photos to Facebook. Sick of notifications as everyone deliberately works through hitting Like on every single bloody one...
Red Stripe - from my understanding from Weymouth, seeding yourself at the front doesn't actually buy you more time on the course.
Yes, the finishing line may still be open at the time you cross it, but you still have to complete the course in the allotted time based on your chip time ie the time you cross then swim timing mat
As Schmunks says, people were crossing the line and the line DJ-type person was saying as they finished, are you an Ironman? and then dependent on the time flashing up on the gantry, yes you are an Ironman or in a couple of cases a rather awkward silence
Also doesn't help with AG positions I guess, not that that would ever concern me but if you decided to self-seed at the back of the swim for some reason, people at the front end of the race may think they've got a Kona slot only for someone to finish quarter of an hour later but still quicker.
The last finisher in Maastricht missed their chip cut off time by 90 seconds ... if i remeber rightly
The last 3 all messed their chip cut off
Yes, it was a little 'uncomfortable' seeing them cross the line all euphoric, then a bit of an 'oh' silent moment, and suddenly moving on to where the next one out on the course was.

Might I humbly suggest complicating the list?

I think DPS Dave and I will be there. It needs some discussion when we're back in Blighty But we're looking 95% certain

what Barlo says
agree with barly...
15:15 must mean it has to be a flat bike ride... similar to IM Frankfurt
The proposed bike cutoff is 10 hours which is longer than we had in Mallorca which was a 9:40 bike cut off...
Don't think you should worry too much about it...
1:30 swim 7 hour bike and 6 hour marathon gives you 45 mins in transition
swiss bobby.. the 10 hrs at hamburg includes the swim
Swim and bike faster
Didn't look like the course had been announced according to their site as of this morning?
Seren - the 9 hrs 40 mins at Mallorca included the swim too.
But at least after gunning it to get into T2 in time, you'd got more than 5 hours for the marathon I guess
had a look on google maps with the terrain feature on can see not bumps... it think bridge might be the biggest hill we get...
15.15 is doable for sure and yes, certainly concentrates the mind
Seems that the shorter the time allowed reflects the flatter the course
also if you get up frint in the swim seeding you can get nearer 16 hours on course

Mallowpuff - the avalanche of likes can be forgiven as you had some cracking photos.
To be fair I think you have passed as Serens apprentice so looking forward to you being PSOF official photographer.
