sounds ok to me DT, i'm sure Charlie was this year
7/10
Edit - you are correct, said something along the lines of ' having f*&ked Lou up 2 years running and Charlie last year i think i'll abstain this year '
Lit will not be surprised to learn that I only got 6/10
8/10 for me. Got the Jesus one and the i's and t's wrong. I would say jesus -es helmet, so it seems odd not to write it that way. And anyway who is to say the sentence was about Jesus out of the bible. I seriously doubt they even had crash helmets 2000 year ago.
anyway, Charlie does continue to run regularly but it is generally 5/6 milers at very easy.
So, it appears that my case to have 20 milers added has failed. Now what about the reallocation of gold/silver/bronze cells for height, to the shortest person instead of tallest person, following last weeks discussion. A basic look at the below shows that mo farah at 5'9 is a virtual endurance giant! I believe that we have had it wrong all this time.
I'd also like to challenge rule 5, The Dan. The science is largely undeniable on this. In fact I would say the most medium heighted person should get the cell, anyone around 5'8/9'.
So the BBC's explanation is that 'most style guides' call for an apostrophe on its own with no additional 's' for biblical or classical names. However, although Fowler's Modern English Usage does say '[i]n verse, and in poetic or reverential contexts, this custom is retained' (Lou, he also adds that you only pronounce the two syllables in Jesus' in that case), the New Hart's Rules (used by OUP) stipulate that 'Jesus's is the usual non-liturgical use; Jesus' is an accepted archaism' and that classical names in non-classical contexts should have the extra 's'. The MHRA Style Guide (used by my department and most people in my discipline in the UK) allows an apostrophe alone for 'Moses' and Greek names ending in -es but insists on an 's' for all names ending in -us including 'Jesus'.
I have a few local 10k's lined up in July that I usually do. There is also the raceways event at long marston on Saturday 29th July, and dependant on if it is hot or not, I might do the 10k or even the half there.
Lit, not really. I will do a few runs of maybe upto 5 miles to tick over but nothing of any value.
I've just signed up to the Trent 5; a race which lit and muddy know well. You interested this year, muddy?
Yeah I think I will be Tommy, I'd quite like to hit a decent 5 miler as a warm up for the Hull 10k. I just need to check whether I'm free for the date. Generally Weds. evenings are not do-able at the moment.
Well I can't really run any more but there's nothing wrong with my grammar - 10/10 on that one. I've enjoyed the race reports, though I read them with a bit of a green tinge... I'll add my experience of 2 years ago with the 3:15 pacer where I had a miserable time tripping over people, and then last year running 3:10 where there were hardly any people in the way and it was really good fun. Seems like the in-between times are the more enjoyable.
So I was thinking about the height/weight medals in the ttt, and how the medals are currently a little arbitrary (I'm not sure hot much training I'd need to do to get taller for example) and was thinking that for the purposes of this replacing it with a medal for bmi might make it a more contestable field? What do people think?
tdan I have no objection as an extra field but I think weight/height is useful information, and I tend to ignore the cell for it.....unless I have it. I still consider that being 7 foot tall is a disadvantage mind you.
OK so here's the updated table, i think i caught everyone's times however if i missed one please let me know, Muddy has secured the marathon gold cell with his effort, here's chuck Norris giving you a thumbs up as a reward;
Which one are you doing Mr V? I think it could compromise the ability to do your last long runs 3 and 2 weeks out, which from vague memory of p&d are 22 and 18. I did Wilmslow 5 weeks out and if I'm honest felt like I was going through the motions in the fortnight after that before the 3 week taper.
It's worked out ok for me before MrV. 3 weeks was a bit close but 4 was just about right actually, as was at peak fitness and still had time to recover. I'd go for it. Which half are you looking at?
I think 4 weeks is fine but you will recall that I love long runs and find them easy and Muddy finds them to be a bit of a slog. So I'd follow the advice of whoever's attitude to long runs more closely matches yours. I wouldn't do 3 weeks out for a half but I have done a flat out 10k 3 weeks before and that was fine (except for messing with my long run timing).
Thanks for the advice. I'm doing York in October so nothing too soon but the half 4 weeks before sells out fairly quickly so need to decide whether to enter.
Madbee the half is Vale of York half. My other option is trying to get a late gnr place and using it as marathon pace practice.

Sounds like a decent plan to me, DT. Which 10k are you doing?
I've just signed up to the Trent 5; a race which lit and muddy know well. You interested this year, muddy?
I've just applied for free elite entry (haha) to the Glasgow half (which will hopefully be the right length this year!). Anyone else fancy that one?

Hope you can make it, Muddy. I'll see if I can cajole Bob into making an appearance.
May 24th, 7pm ish I think.
A quick question for all you experienced marathon folks. Is it OK to race a flat out half 4 weeks before or is it too close?
