just had an update of one of my mates that did the run , winning distance 134 ish miles, pretty impressive, 5 people over 110 miles, haven't heard from ian yet , probably still comatosed, will be back next year to have a proper crack at it, mrs. yrm says she will have go at it, my god , what have i created!! any more fancy a crack!!
why? not as hot as the one in hull in august, pretty much ideal conditions over the weekend, touch breezy in parts. track not as bouncy as i thought , well used
Definitly not interested in tassles this even'nin. Ian left early, not as early as YRM but he'd always said he wasn't doing th ewhole thing. Good to see him whizzing round like that, I did my own whizzing around at te end just to get to 90. Ian did 70 miles 160 yards, YRM did 56 miles 1615 yards Hippo, you must do Tooting, after we've all eaten post race the organisor calls everyone up one at a time to get their trophy or medal. Winner did 133 miles 801 yards, 2nd was 123 miles 630 yards, third was 121 miles 672 yards. first 12 did 100 miles, the last of those did 100 miles and 28 yards.
weather was dry all the time and windy down the back straight, that dropped just before dawn and picked up again mid morning. The sunrise was gorgeous. I did 52 miles by halfway I think but my legs and feet were very sore so I had a 20 minute sit down with my feet in a bowl of water, then put plasters over the blisters. That got me running again, averaging the 4 mph I needed to get 100 but after 3 hours of that I think I went off for a massage. After that of course 100 was out of the window so I walked a few hours until the blisters had got worse and sat don to have them "sorted". We lanced tem and taped them up and I was off running again in the last two hours. Too little to late really but its always nice to be able to finish running and the last 15 minutes were flat out. Good practice for running hard when tired, I mean,-when else am I going to be that tired?
I don't usually get blisters like that. But I do partly because my little toe curls under and the nail catches and my other toes stick up and run against my shoe and mostly I think because my feet sweat a lot and moisture causes blisters. All in all, I had a good day because I overcame all of that.
Quite happy, cos once you take time off the track you can't get distance back. I was moving at my usual pace but usually I stay on the whole time. It happens-there were some top guys struggling today. Don Ritchie, former world champion and multiple world record holder (and last year's winner) finished behind me.
know what you mean about little toes timmy mine always pop, wish i could have them surgecialy removed. would be much happier and less painless, will be back next year, beware!! will make it my main event along with mrs. yrm
actually i usually feel like crying after marathons... and nearly did after L2B (in fact lisa nearly did too bless her). something to do with the release of mental concentration i think...and that was the closest lisa has been to me throughout one of these endeavours. there comes a point where the finish is (proverbially) in sight and you know it's almost over when i feel like crying too but my brain usually picks up on that and forces me back into focussing on getting there!
