Was almost impaled on the scaffolding at the top of the Dragon Pool before I even started on the ropes. When I did get on to the ropes who knows how I managed to hold on for as long as I did but the inevitable happened and I was pinged off the rope and had to swim the rest of the way. Jj - thanks for your concern, but surprisingly my back's the only thing that doesn't hurt.
Just as well I can swim. The water in the lake at the death plunge was five and a half foot deep. I'm only 5 foot 3!
Great to catch up with past Tough Guys and to meet some new ones. I think any future trips by me to Wolverhampton will be in a spectating capacity though.
If I do it again I shall make sure I go round with someone all the way.
Dont know what I am talking about I wasnt ever doing it again at 5pm yesterday
lol
(and Richard is well known for doing That Smiling Thing rather well)
Richard - you did great - just saw that you were up on last year's position. Well done. I actually really enjoyed running aroung the course without having to do the obstacles! I was really hot by the end of it! You should try it that way one year. There were quite a few people in the top 100 that didn't complete the obstacles in full Tough Guy fashion so in real terms you probably have a higher finsihing position.
Hugs to those that got injuried on route. Especially to Cougie - you looked really disappointed
I was talking to the winner afterwards - I think he said it was his second time entering and possible the first time was Nettle Warrior last year. He was made up and seemed like a very nice chap.
lol
:-)
Also I was in the water having just gone under the secon obstacle and waiting to go under the tunnel and I looked at the bloke next to me and he was grinning, I said what the f*** are you grinning at? and he just said "I am Pi$$ing"
Not sure what the obstacle was called, but you were supposed to slide off it down the logs. I tried and fell halfwaty so had to do the obstacle again. Didn't mind that but I then sat on a log nobody had used, it was completely dry. I had to shuffle down it with the crowd all laughing at me.
I wore shorts, and LS techie top, has woolen hat (lost at arctic plunge) and Woolen Gloves (discarded at underwater tunnels) plus spare gloves in watertight bag but this was lost before i had chance to use them. I would have really benefited from a dry hat/gloves in later stages but other than the crawling obstacles can honestly say had no problem with legs. Saw loads with homemade ankle gaurds or taped around shoes but mostly seemed useless.
Next year (if) would do the same but secure spare hat/gloves better, but also look at knee protection.
I wore a thin pair of long fingered gloves with a pair of weight gloves over the top which provided as much grip as a banana skin once caked in mud!!
My faithful hat served me well even when soaking wet. Think I left it in the barn though - gutted
thin undergloves/surgical gloves over for waterproofnes/then fingerless........said she never had wet or cold hands at all - and for her that is amazing........
would like to try before I get cold!.
Anyone see what happened to guy in superman thong -v brave, but best fancy dress were 2 guys in Burtons suits with briefcases
p.s. to be fair Rich did have quite a few beers. But you should never let the truth get in the way of a good rumour.
