Oh well, not quite as exciting as I thought. The Croatians are the tallest team in Europe, supposedly, so it was funny at times when they were shaking hands with a few of the shrimpier Brazilians at the beginning. Kaka- that name makes me laugh! Especially when the commentators try to draw out the second syllable so it sounds like "Kakaaaa" and not quite as infantile.
Back tomorrow pm for the Germany-Poland match, need to take a break
My predictions for tomorrow:
Spain vs Ukraine- 2:0 Tunisia vs Saudi- 0:2 Germany vs Poland- 1:0
Yep, the lino isn't helping the Ukraine team. Although they were fairly clueless themselves for the 1st 30 mins or so.
Swallowed Blue pride & put Alonso in my fantasy team which I'm pleased with, but less so with Sheva at the moment (hoping he sorts it out against Tunisia & Saudi Arabia).
Excellent display from Spain, best team in the tournament so far and hopefully this result will bring them out of their world cup ugly sister position.
Not seen the game but read the highlights on the web, seem to have been a good performance by Spain. I always worry about them in the tournaments, qualify brilliantly and then play rubbish in the competition itself.
Fair play a brilliant start for them, however, we've got to wait until the second round before they play anyone top class.
Casillas and Torres in my dream team so at last some decent points! I also have the unkrainian chap who got sent off, luckily he's my sub player so won't count in the points.
The last two teams in the World Cup. I love the first round. We see how the big guns are shaping up, and a few dark horses put down a marker.
Thoughts so far.
England lethargic and bereft of ideas beyond Beckham's right boot. Brazil only in second gear. Spain and Argentina frightening. Germany enigmatic. (good going forward and rubbish at the back? what a turnaround Italy strong. France old. Holland promising. Ivory Coast good but in the wrong group.
Ecuador - Good technique but ultimately lightweight I fear. Poland - Lack guile. Costa Rica - Weak defensively. Trinidad & Tobago - blagging it. Sweden - great attack but no service from midfield. Paraguay - out of their depth. Serbia - strong unit, but will do well to qualify. Ivory Coast - strong, positive and bags of flair, like all the great African sides. Again, unlucky with their group. Mexico - above average. Portugal - Only one man (Pauleta) looks likely to score. Not enough strength in depth to go all the way. Iran - meh. Angola - making up the numbers. USA - strangely subdued. Their slow pace of game seems shocked by the quick European style. Outmuscled by the Czechs. Czech Republic - impressive unit. powerful and difficult to break down. An outside bet. Ghana - strong but very dirty. Australia - a dirty team of journeymen who will get caught out later in the tournament. Japan - great technique and good passing team but naive. Croatia - Solid but somewhat nondescript. South Korea - see Japan but not quite as good. Togo - passionate and strong but lacking in leadership. Switzerland - a nothing team. Tunisia ? Saudi Arabia ?
Evening people! Caught both matches during some PC time out, I'm afraid I haven't assembled a dream team yet, but- er- my predictions: at least I predicted that Spain wouldn't concede any goals, and that Saudi would score 2! Well done, ScH, on your predictions!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARE THEY SCOTLANNNND INNN DISGUISE.
We knew they had a talented bunch of players, but they seem like a really well-moulded unit.
Could go a long way.
Best team so far? hmm a tie with Argentina

A Tunisian defender in for Lucio.
Schwiensteiger in for Kaka.
