Hi JJ, nice to see you back again and hope to meet you on Saturday perhaps?? and thanks for the cheque!
Now. Guys, I need some help.
This is something that I've been sort of avoiding, and trying to ignore and not really thinking about...
My shin - my right one - is really sore. Feels bruised...even sometimes when sitting, motionless...
Have I done something really stupid, like given myself shin splints or a stress fracture? I only did 2.7 miles this morning, but it was including speed work. I iced knees and shins afterwards but it's still sore.
Soooooooooooooo... any advice that doesn't include the words 'Don't run'? Gulp...
ScamperMouse, nope, no advice that doesn't include the words "don't run". Pain at rest means you need to have the possibility of a compartment syndrome - where the muscle swells to overstretch the its fibrous "wall" - checked out, and a stress fracture also remains a possibility. Shin splints is less likely to give you rest pain.
Go see someone who knows about these things. Try your GP first, and if they don't inspire confidence (nobody knows everything) you need a specialist in sports medicine.
JJ - can you ask him if my orthotics are back yet!??! Thanks & good luck!
Scamper Mouse - sounds a bit like shin splints, keep doing what you are, ie icing and have a look in the health section on here as it might tell you more... finngers crossed you have caught them before they get too bad!
Thanks Iain - only got 13.1miles tomorrow and 10.2m on Sunday... youch!!
Yep a tough weekend, but tapering starts sort of next week... Lake V is on June 1st, just over 3 weeks time... but am not planning on racing, just running!
Still a long way at whatever speed, Spans! And that does sound like a hefty weekend you've got coming up.
I'd probably have done Tewkesbury were it not for the Moonwalk. It's fairly local, and very attractive. My window looks on to a little road called Tewkesbury Road, which is not one bit attractive - on a cloudy day it reminds me of Bucharest, pre-1989. Except that the locals are more variably pigmented and don't wear fur hats, and when I go outdoors they're more likely to try to relieve me of local currency than to sell it to me at ridiculously generous exchange rates.
Bleeeurgh! I can cope with most body fluids, but sputum grosses me out. I think it has something to do with an old, childish joke to which the punchline is "I'm just chewing the lumps".
Grooooogh! I am now quite pleased that it's...HOW long till lunch? Bleedin' heck! It's ages.
I have curry. Again. This one's a ghee-free version I made myself with a little help from Mr Patak. Turkey, mushroom, and hopefully not enough cauliflower to set my insides on edge. To be served with lemon and coriander couscous cos it's either that or noodles. Then a nice ripe mango.
