    SY3 - serves you right for wishing for wet weather!! I only know my number because I phoned Sports Tours as I hadn't appeared on the NYC database. I'm now on the db but Sports Tours told me my race number anyway. I've not received anything through the post.

    I'm so glad that the training's nearly over - the change in the weather is horrible. Tonight was the first night I wore my woolly Nike hat.

    And THAT event heralds the Official Start of Winter in my book... Grrr.

    Alex - if number's haven't already got tooo mad, please add me & the Tea & Toast Lady to the McM pasta party. We're more than happy to make donations.

    Maybe we should do a pasta crawl and go to the official do as well! Any takers?

    TTM - mine's a four digit no, 9776. Not sure if that has any significance!

    I'd happily do both but if I eat too much I get pogged!! But the atmosphere should be great.

    Haven't washed my stuff from lunchtime so tomorrow I shall be in dried-damp kit!

    wet and dark weather sucks.....Saturday's last really big run was curtailed by overly wet and therefore horribly blistering feet! Almost only 2 weeks until I fly!! Excited and scares in equal measure! ;-)

    Hi everyone,

    I am slightly worried as I seem to have done most of my training on the treadmill. Will this matter?
    The problem is I have limited time and early morning runs though ideal,are dangerous because I run alone . I have to be at work for 8am meaning my runs have to start at about 5.30am!
    Hopefully, the cabbage 10 mile run in Kingston will the test(I hope I have a place as I applied rather late)
    What are the girls running in-Not sure what to wear as the weather will be cold I expect.

    got out for a long run last night,felt like i ran for about a month.started to fall to bits after about 2:30,but felt I had to run over tower bridge once in my life-i'm sure its better on marathon day than at 10pm with a few bedraggled japanese,but just pushed on anyway,took a couple of wrong turns ,stopped for more drinks(not brandy,though it couldn't have hurt)finally got round in 3:55.not in good shape.just measured it out,just short of 20 miles-31.5k.still don't know where the next 6 are coming from...
    and pavement is definitely not good for the ankles....i'm walking today,but not with confidence.resolution,no more road running til new york,no more 4 hour runs ever.
    some consolations though-good new kit-the anorak worked fine,tights v comfortable.and i've just scoffed two large bacon sarnies without guilt-didn't get any supper at 11.30,and burned about 3250 cal.
    I will refine numbers and chat to macmillan this afternon.if i'm still awake...

    Anne - no idea what I'm wearing if the weather is going to be like this! Everyone says make sure you dont run in anything new but I dont own wet weather gear yet - so it's gonna be quite new whatever!?

    F1104 - Significance of F is women only start at front of red area. Seriously scared!

    Keith - hoping for under 4 (would be nice but only if I can do it comfortably and enjoy the event).

    Anne - Not sure what I'm going to wear. I'm taking clothes for all conditions - hot, cold, rain and wind - fortunately lycra and nylon don't take up much space. I'll run in shorts, though not UJ shorts, unless it's absolutely freezing cold.

    Alex - thanks for sorting out Macmillan for us all. Well done on the run.

    For those of you who are fretting about clothing now the weather has finally turned autumnal I thought it might be useful to share my checklist for disposable clothing to take to the start.

    For those of you who have not done NY before bear in mind that we have 3 hours to kill at Fort Wadsworth - this is not an option, it's the time that the buses will get you there. A long wait with no shelter if the conditions are against us.

    Here's what I take:
    Old sweatshirt & jogging bottoms
    Disposable paper painters suit (very sexy)
    Space blanket retained from the GNR (large bin bags will do)
    Plastic bags and elastic bands to go over shoes
    Woolly hat & gloves (cheapos from the army surplus store)

    Before any of you start panicking about it I can tell you that last year I needed none of these, in fact I was slapping the sun block on at 9.30am and stretching out on a grassy knoll! BUT it's New York in November and any conditions are possible - don't risk your health before a 26.2!!!

    NR - F numbers for runners expecting (maybe!) to finish under 4 hours. Based on my London time I've been given an F number. At London I had my husband to pace me (for pace read nag), this time he's staying at home with children, many and various.

    LF - thanks for clothes list. Hopefully no one will have a camera to record how lovely we'll all look if it's cold and raining!

    Bad news - have officialy torn a ligament in my left foot. Need to rest it. i know I'm tapering but looks like I wont be able to run at all now for at least a week...what shall I do? Thing is it's strapped up so can't swim - what then?!

    NR - sorry to here about the ligament.

    A rest at this stage will not be to bad just make sure you don't do nay more damage. Can you use any of the cardio equipment in the gym to keep that side going? A few light weights can probably also be used to keep working the leg muscles as well.

    You have already done all the hard work so see if you can just do a few things to keep the system topped up and you should be ok.

    NR - Don't worry. You've done all your training. I have a damaged nerve in my foot. Been visiting podiatrist specialising in sports injuries and he suggested hot and cold treatment (I use gel and hot water bottle). Apply ice for 2 minutes and hot water bottle for 2 mins. Do this about 4 or 5 times but finish with the ice. It worked for me. (However, it's probably best if you ask your doc/physio if these methods are ok for your injury). Also I massage my foot using either baby oil or if it's aching like mad I use Deep Relief (you can get it in boots). If you use these methods you will at least avoid your injury becoming inflammed.

    I also had to rest up for a couple of weeks and believe it or not, came back stronger than ever for the rest. I know it's so bl...y frustrating but it's too near the marathon to be taking any risks so rest it up.

    Hope this helps but remember to ask your doc first.

    Will keep fingers crossed for you NR. After all the hard work you've done, you'll be fine with a bit of rest. You ran a 20 miler just a few days ago, which is brilliant.

    Thanks for the checklist, Little Feat - I have stapled it to my head so I don't forget it. Ow!

    My registration card arrived this morning.

    Keith/Angi - I'm also hoping to sneak under four hours. Ran 4 hours 3 seconds at the 2001 FLM - and those 3 annoyingly measly seconds just HAVE TO GO.

    Hi jane - I'm beginning to feel like some predatory geek when I do this now!! - I'm gathering all the info from people on this thread who are doing New York and keeping everyone up to date on our proposed meet in New York. If you want to be incuded, e-mail me from this post with as much of the following as you wan to give:

    Tour operator used if any
    charity running for if any

    many of us are meeting at the Mayflower Hotel, 15 Central Park West at 5pm Saturday, so come and join us.

    NR - sorry to hear about the foot. Its timing isn't too bad, you've done the training and you still have time to recover. What do we do with 8 apples each?

    Hi OB! HAve to confess i'm a tad confused by the apples too! perhaps we juggle after the event with all he surplus energy we'll have??? Am not getting down about the foot - you're right, timing is OK in the sense that better now than a few days before. Am looking forward to jogging a nice slow 26.2 miles with you!

    Number arrived this morning (1491 Green Start), am recovered from Loch Ness (but teetering on the edge of a cold, keep on popping those vitamin and Zinc pills) and am committed to go - 4 nights booked at the Comfort Inn Central Park West, Virgin 0930 from LHR on the 1st.

    Thanks for the excellent check list Little Feat - this'll be my 6th marathon of the year and probably the most spectacular I'll ever do.

    anyone planning to run with music,or is that a bad breach of etiquette.part of the reason i got a bit down last night,apart from frustration at poor form,was no uplifting music after about 2 hours cos my batteries ran out.i was thinking of carrying my (very small) walkman round to crank me up from about 15 miles in to the finish,probably with some raucous ny type music from The Boss.If the crowd is particularly inspirational,perhaps one earpiece would suffice.any thoughts?

    Alex - we'll aim for 4:30, if we do 5 - who cares? We'll have a great time - and no you wont need music - 2.5 million spectators will keep us going. BTW who said they would act as pacer? I've forgotten?
