On behalf of everyone who, when asked their opinion, stated that they thought a marathon in Liverpool during August would be a bad idea - I apologise.
I did not realise that this thread was exclusively intended for elitist runners who look down with distain on anyone that isn't interested in running 10 marathons per year plus.
Excuse me while I look for the ">35 minutes for a 10k only" forum.
Whoops, sorry everyone did not intend to offend. Just a bit of fun eh?
By the way, just cos we run/walk a lot it does not make us elitist and we all started with just one or two Marathons a year! Can we call a truce please?
Is it true that FLM are no longer running the L'Pool Half, if this is true then a L'pool marathon is a must and why has FLM withdrawn after only one year
The Half was on for 2 years as I did it both times. Had I known about it's demise I would have mentioned it to Dave Bedford as I was sitting next to him at the RRC Council meeting on Tuesday night. I don't know why it is not on unless Flora have pulled out. Is Silverstone off too I wonder.
Calm Down Calm Down everyone. As said earlier the Liverpool half should still be on and at this stage nobody knows if London Marathon or someone else will run it. Silverstone is already cast in tablets of stone.
Pam, Of course we can call a truce ! Surely these forums are all about people voicing their differences (well, maybe not ALL about, but partly about!)
I think the point here is that we all run for different reasons. Personally, I don't train for races, I race to keep me training. If I wasn't preparing for a race I would end up not running at all. I plan in 3 or 4 10ks, a couple of halfs and a marathon per year, although I'm considering upping to 2 marathons. Some people just want to race and training is a means of getting them there, while others don't like racing at all. Our differences don't make us better or worse runners, just different - and how boring would life be if we were all the same?
On the London Marathon site there is still the page for the Silverstone Half, but not for the Liverpool Half anymore (I'm sure it was up there a couple of months ago with the 2007 date).
I'm glad that FLM aren't organising the Liverpool Half, as long as someone else does. As a Formula One fan I always want to run around Silverstone, but being on Merseyside can't really justify travelling that far for a half on the same day as one so close.
I did the first one a few years back - the excitement of being on the F1 track soon wears off - it is pretty boring.
The FLM mag for next year has an ad for Silverstone, but makes no mention of Liverpool - therefore most people are assuming that they will not be having anything to do with it.
Pam, I very much doubt I'm a better runner than you ,but I'm sure one day our paths will cross - if you hang around the finish line long enough for me to get to it!
Now a Liverpool 1/2, that would be a good idea. Sometime around March would be a good time to hold it for peoples marathon preparations!
A lot of you are concerned about the possible marathon being held in August.
I don't know if any of you have run the Potteries Marathon (now no longer run), but that was always held in June, and consistently attracted large fields. It was also a very hilly and challenging course, but that did not seem to put runners off.
I only ran it the once, as I live in the south, but had no problems at all with the weather.
Yes, they have replaced it with a half marathon, with disappointing results.
The fields now consist mainly of local runners, who haven't bothered to train much and are causing problems with the police wishing to reopen the roads. It appears that most of the previous marathon runners are giving the half a miss.
I regret now, only running the marathon once. It was so well organised, and the crowd support was fantastic.
I think August is perfect timing - you can do training runs when it is light even at 9-10pm. I'm doing Dublin (Oct 30) and I am already struggling with running in the dark most evenings
Mr Happy, that is a really good point. I've been doing my training for Beachy Head through the summer, setting out at 5:30am to avoid the heat on my long runs. Winter training can be tougher, if you don't like running in the dark, as it eats right into your day - if you're a slow runner like me.
Comments
I do know about the triple too although I'll only be doing the Beachy Head part of this year.

Great, everyone's all smiles again!
Hope to meet you one day, you are probably a much better runner than I am!
