yep I agree - I havent done this for a few years now but will definately be running it with my wife this year. Breaks up the Christmas holiday nicely. Am trying to get some friends from footie and work to do it also...
A very well organised run over a fast course followed by an easy 3 points in Norfolk (If they played like they did today)a great way to finish off the Christmas break?
Did this last year (my first race) and am hoping to improve my time this year. Didn't much like the uphill start and remember thinking someone must have pinched the 4 mile marker!!
My partner is doing it too this year and it will be his first race.
Just about all the comments seem to be pretty favourable about this race so I will definetely be doing this one.
Having done a couple of 10k's so far I'm hoping that I might go a bit quicker over 5 miles though I guess a lot will depend on the conditions on the day.
There doesn't seem to be many other races in Essex for a while in the 5-10k range so another good reason for doing it. Roll on the 26th !
Cross countries suck! I've come last in the last two I've done and now I'm not doing anymore. Springfield Strider will appriciate this - even the men started to overtake me, I was that far behind :-(
Where do I find about XC races? I have searched the www but to no avail - is it only available to club runners? Would a "plodder" like me be unsuitable? So many questions! ;-)
Most XC require you to be a member of a club. But the 53 12 League and the Mid Essex League let guests run for a small charge. Details available on most Essex club's websites www.springfieldstriders.org.uk obviously being my favourite.
There are plenty of "plodders" just like any road race.
I plod at the back - I get round. To get round was enough, but last twice is a bit much and I've not improved.
SS - yes I am in the Essex League. Do you do the South East Essex Sunday XC League as well? There's a double header this weekend, isn't there?! Good luck if you do them. I like both those courses (Hockly and Stubbers), both relatively flat, from what I remember, better than Gloucester Park, that's for sure!!!
Please dont give up too quickly TH, I was always at the back at xc for at least 6 months, then slowly but surely I started to improve and overtake people who I would never have overtaken.
Such a good feeling.
So nice to give your knees and joints a rest as well by running on soft ground rather than pounding concrete
Haha! Thanks to the downpour on Saturday, parts of the course were quite bog like, especialy on the second lap! As usual, loved it!!!!
One more 10 mile road race, the remaining xc dates and this run at Witham and thats my years racing done! Anyone else got any other races planned before the 31st December?
Kazzaaaaah - you don't want to go to the Brecon Beacons - did you see last week's Torchwood?????? Just take care!!!
Stet, well done at Stubbers, I love that course, but am sulking / on running club strike at the moment. But, I did get out Friday and today and ran for an hour each time, so I'm pleased with that (I can't be last on my own, just first!!).
TH Not in the South Essex League. Did Hockley (Essex League) on Saturday though after the cloudburst. Great stuff. We've got the best XC of the year this Sunday at Stebbing, bogs and three river crossings. Definitely not for the squeamish. Should be good after this weather. I hear the Hadleigh 10 miler was under water as well. At least with XC you know what to expect.
Stet - we came our usual 10th, men and women. Our good boys and girls have to go shopping or are working most Saturdays and to be honest prefer the courses in the Sunday leagues. Although the SX XC courses have got more interesting in the last few years.

Looking forward to it for the same reason!
See you all on the day I will be marshalling. Pls say hello or wave if you can't speak ;-0

Looking forward to it - I wish there were more races though!
Im doing Witham as well
Those that have not tried a XC (technical term) might be pleasantly surprised. You won't get a medal at the end though.
Sorry Witham for hijacking thread.

SS, Stebbing xc sounds great!!!!
Our next round is at Hadleigh in two weeks. Can't wait!
How did the Striders do in the Essex league?
SS - well done, I heard Hockly was a bit of a watery too!
Springfield Strider, Good luck to you and your club at Stebbing.
