oh, ok, just being dumb in a well meaning but mis-guided kind of way...
I have to agree with fbf - I am deeply sceptical as to whether BMI counts for anything whatsoever.... My BMI is 26.4 - I've never been fitter in my life, run/cycle 5 times a week, ran the FLM in 3 1/2 hours... I am NOT overweight!
thanks fbf - liked the Tommy Cooper gags elswhere btw!
I watched a marathon recently (event name withheld in case person to be mentioned visits here) and early on in the race this guy came by and he was really quite blubbery with men's boobs and all and I thought he won't last long at that pace!
He finished in under 4 hours which is far better than I can do so he must have trained well, yet he hadn't toned up or lost the body fat. How frustrating would that be?
BMI are only approx. guides. Mine is 21.74, for me to go under 20 and be 'officially underweight' i'd need to lose a stone and a half, but if i lost that i'd be hospitalised by my family as I'm naturally heavy but don't carry much weight if you see what i mean. Heavy tape worms in my gut i reckon.
Dr N - could you please set up the scales please as I may refer a few skeletons over to you for a checkup. 18.6? can hear the bloody bones rattling now.

rocks - aren't those methods for calculating body fat percentage?

a BMI of 25 was arbitrary. to keep out the real skinnies.
But yes i agree, if you were all muscle (and as well all know, muscle weighs more than fat) it would say you were overweight
Thanks, fbf, this is an excellent idea. I get so miserable thinking I am the only hard-exercising overweight runner around.
Cripes.
