Entered last night. First half in nearly 2 years. Using the Cabbage Patch 10 as a warm-up. Had entered Windsor, but that is now cancelled due to F&M exclusion zone!
Having run this one many times over the last 20 years + I agree that chip timing will be great as the start can be a bit slow because it is narrow. Once you get through the 1st half mile enjoy the scenery!!
Hello Mark. Fancy seeing you over here! Welcome anyway. Haven't done this one before, but fellow clubmates tell me the undulations aren't much to worry about. What sort of time are you aming at? We could share tactics for FLM while racing!
There is 1 fairly short steep hill at around 4 miles another around 8 miles apart from that a few gentle hill. Well worth doing though and chance of a good time!
Is that the same hill each time? I know the course is a sort of figure of eight configuration. I may transfer the course map to mapmyrun and see what I'm letting myself in for! Can't be any harder than the steps at eight miles during the Cabbage Parch 10!
It's a different hill! The 1st one is worse than the other 1 but once you get up it there is o long flat/downhill run through to half way where you go back through the start/fininish area. Your right it is a figure of eight course

If anyone else wants to see the route profile, I've plotted it on mapmyrun.com. Just type in Barns Green to the route search box. The hill at 5 miles looks the biggest, with a few 'rollers' after that. See you there.
Hope to see you all there. I'm not running this time as just back from my hols and can barely run 6 miles never ming 13! I'll be cheering you all on though.
Is anyone else disappointed by the way that the chip timing is being used at this event? To quote the organiser: "As this is our first year with chip timing we are doing gun to finish times". Personally, I thought the whole idea of chip timing is that you also get your own personal start-to-finish time, negating the effect of delays in crossing the start line (a particular problem at this race).
Obviously, prizes should be awarded on gun-to-finish times. But I presume that we have paid a premium in our entry fee for chip timing, and don't seem to be getting the full benefits of the system.
I'm still very much looking forward to this race, but I'm disappointed by this aspect.
I started running from new 5 and half months ago and could not run more than 30 secs. Now have done 2 x 10K'a and the last one I knocked off 8 mins off pb. Yeah OK I am bragging about it.he he
Amyway I have been using myasics as a training guide for the last 14 weeks for this half and am so excited.
I have one more long run this Sunday of 20K to do and then it's taper time. Amazing as it seems I really don't get into a steady running pace until a good 45 mins into the long runs.
Yes, have my race pack and ready to rock.
This will be my first half and man a live number 5 it will be fab.
I will be there at the 9:45am mark to park up and get ready etc.ohh and use the loo at loeast a few hundred times before the gun start!
I am going to have a drive in the car and go through the route as I only live a few miles away, looking at the elevation maps on google it looks like it has only 2 peaks that you should be wary of so I must use the joggers rule of thumb "I PROMISE NOT TO SHOW OFF AND START TOO QUICKLY" Yeah right, like who does this as it is just so exciting!!
Also for anyonme who has done this before can you let me know if the roads reopen soon after the race kicks off as I have my family who want to come halfway through the race to see me at the finsih line? Any inside info as to this?
Road closures stay in place until the runners have passed a particular point. However, driving into the village itself from the direction of Itchingfield is quite difficult throughout as they keep this closed as the road leads to the finish. Which direction are they coming from?
Number 761 checking in! Number in post today. Haven't done this race before, but running buddies who have say get there early to park, and don't expect to get away too quickly either. There's a link on the BG website to a map that I did on mapmyrun. Seems to be two climbs to worry about (one at 5 miles, and one at 8).

I'm in too. My last half was Reading back in March!
I did the Alice Holt 10k yesterday in Farnham - hot and hilly but it was good to be back and I was happy enough with 49.17.
Good luck everyone with Barns Green - I did it last year and it was stunning.

Hi everyone
Is this one really flat? I might be in the area during the weekend and it looks like a decent race to 'do' (okay participate in then....)
Doing it again this year. Its also very good for family/friends who come to support.
Running Wilbury,
That's really neat (mapmyrun) - would you mind if I added a link to it from the BG website?
Neil.
Not at all. As long as people aren't confused by the running along the same piece of road three times (two out,one back). Glad to be of service!
Any idea when race pack comes out?

>> Going by other races where chip timing has been used you should see two 'finish' times on the list of official results
Not according to the race organiser, but I hope you are right!
Hot potatoe!!!!!!!!

Bring it on dudes.
Marty boy
Does anyone know how many and what the water stations positions are?
Hi Martyboy,
Road closures stay in place until the runners have passed a particular point. However, driving into the village itself from the direction of Itchingfield is quite difficult throughout as they keep this closed as the road leads to the finish. Which direction are they coming from?
They may struggle to get into the village.
A villager!
