For want of a better place, I'm starting this thread to state as a matter of public record that Muttley Jnr (13 and 11/12ths years old) has challenged me to a bet. A fiver of his pocket money says that I can't make it to 100 medals by my 50th birthday in May 2010.
I've been racing since 2000 and have about 50 to date. I'm a non-motorist so many races are out of reach to me, but I still reckon I'm in with a good shout.
I got a medal today at the Burnham Beeches 10K (woo-hoo!), next up is the Grand Union Canal half marathon on 11 November. On the horizon are the Goring and Woodcote 10K, Wokingham Half, Goring 10K, Reading Half, Bracknell Half .... and I'm sure I'll find a few more in between.
That fiver's got my name written all over it already ...
Wish me luck!

Muttley get your self and muttley junior to Man V horse next year. You can do the relay team race and do 7 miles but still get the bling medal.
Train to south wales but I'm sure you can jump on the transport that will be arranged this end.
Good luck in your quest.
I'm off to count my medals now.
BTW if you want to race the train, man vs horse, the beast, the Snowdon run (not marathon) or Roman Run I go past your neck of the woods and woulld be glad of the company. As long as you keep your veiws on Helly Hansons use of real fur to yourself.
Maybe you could complete your quest with a 100K?
Does that mean you will only run races that give a medal now?
Robin Hood has a nice chunky medal for both half and full.
Right, I've done an audit and the current count is 57.
8 marathons, 12 10Ks, 34 half marathons and 3 other distances. Total racing distance 750 and a half miles.
Forty-three to go in 30 months. Easy ....
Sorry Muttley, I'm with Junior on this. Plaques, horse brasses and the like do not count.
Just face it, you started running too late. Medals are sooo last century!!
Mind you, did Jnr specify if you have to run for them yourself? I have a couple of hundred I could sell you .
<blows a loud raspberry at Muzzy>
I'll drill holes in the plaques and insert ribbons to turn them into medals
Medals are a waste of time, they lie in a shoe box. And you ask what is the point in a womens only road race!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Grand Union Canal Half Marathon this morning = medal (and a really nice one )
Tally now 58 ...42 to go in 30 months. Easy ....
I have quite a few
You're tempting me, Womble ... I must stay strong ...
All I've got to do is score 100 by May 2010 when the dreaded 50th arrives. 10Ks and above (don't do 5Ks, barely enough to warm up). Injury and illness no excuse.
He might have put a fiver of "his money" on it, but it is of course my money to start with. I'm only fooling myself
The Hogs Back race this morning = medal
That makes 59, with 41 to go. Next planned outing is Woodcote 10K in first week of Jan.
Easy!
Woodcote & Goring 10K this morning = medal
That makes 60 so far, 40 to go in 29 months. Next planned outing is the Lakeside Run at Frimley on 27 Jan. Should be a doddle!
