There are size charts on the website too but if you aren't sure I think they will tell you. Otherwise Google triathlon wetsuits and look up sizes on anything you find. Will give you an indication anyway.
Same thing for bikes
Though for both it is better to be able to try first
There are some sites & shops that let you pay off a bike bit by bit, some even interest free... Just think of the sort of people who spend 4k on bike bling... most people don't have that sitting around in their bank account. Maybe have a ponder what you could afford every month and over which time to pay it...
For example, if you could spare £40 a month you could get a nice enough (for starters) road bike and pay it off over 12 monthly instalments.
Then go by the weight/measurements rather than looking at the height too much. You can cut the arms legs down. But they do need to be very snug and I mean snug. It takes me around 15minutes to get mine on!
Might be better to go and see someone first if you are much over the overlap of heights/weight on the sizings
That's what I call "front crawl". I think it's the more "universal" name.
Its also your style....
free....
like a bird
PS like the tip on buying the bike. May look into that - can I take the bike immediately? My brother rubbed off on me like that. I want the best. Doesn't mean I can AFFORD it. But I still want it.
Rio - yeh will go look at one first. Am probably a bit anal about sizes to be honest but would rather get one that fits really well, than have something else to worry about (other than dying)
It is called freestyle because you can choose how you swim (hence some people use breaststroke) but you could also use Butterfly. You cant swim in backstroke for safety reasons.
The style that most people choose to race in though is front crawl.
PO You do need it to fit or it will not give you the bouyancy you need and may even create extra drag! Not what you want at all
Reason why I am reluctant t get into this... as I have been told I most likely need to have one made to fit me, because even if I settled for the 'capri' look on a normal wetsuit, the knee joits would be halfway up my thighs... If they allow me, I swim without, after all it is only 750 metres... long enough to warm up but not so long you get hypothermic, hypothetically speaking...
you struggling Plummie? What is says is £25 hire for the season, you pay for the suit, but they refund you £75 if you return it intact at the end of the season... seems very good value, so I have asked them how long the legs on these things are
You don't happen to have a spare wetsuit hanging around the place have you? You MTB last year was a great success so much so, I have bought my own, but now I find myself lacking a wetsuit
I bought a tri-uk ex hire at the end of the season last year. Chap from tri-uk looked at me and decided what I needed. Fattmatt put it on me whilst I stood there feeling poorly and it fits perfectly. So tight it doesn't let in water! Unless I pull open the neck! Brilliant to swim in though!
Cost me £50. I was worried about the size and wonder if I'd got it myself I'd have got it looser!
Han, I have a shortie wetsuit Mr Phil left me but all in all you prob need to go somewhere and get one fitted. I am swimming in an o'neal surfing one that cost £70
I might make this my first open water next year... bit early for me this year as only just getting things back together. I'll clap this year and do it in 2009.
Nam, you can do it now! Its like a big open pool with funny tasting water. Its a very well run event and is perfect as 1st time open water event for those slightly nervous novices.
I have ordered a hire qwetsuit from triuk now... only £25, can't go wrong there, can I? Size F2 apparently and it does not matter that the legs are short as long as it fits accross the chest...
We stayed in the new dockside flats last Octoer for a week. There were Kayak paddlers learning to eskimo role and do other water stuff all the time we were there. They still had a healthy glow at the end of the week. I am going to enter as I have just found out about it.
The flats are very nice to stay in by the way. The Prom is like Telly Tubby land. Its a great spot.

Nam - we have been through this! You won't die! You are going to be a highly accomplished freestyle swimmer in NO time!
But I have a funny figure. Doesn't that matter? Think roly poly chubster...

Yes you can take the bike there and then. You basically enter into a credit agreement. Like buying a car...
free as a bird... >>laughs hysterically<<
Rio - is actually called "freestyle" not "crawl"...
Right will find a shop and have wettie fitted. Will purchase ex hire wettie off TriUK.
Will purchase a bike on credit. Any suggestions on shops that do this?
Hurrah! Sorting out stuff is making the whole "triathlon" thing not quite as scary
"Blobfish - any chance of you holding onto that until I see what size I am?2
To be quite honest this looks good value

It's not quite open water. It is sort of alge infested dock.
There are signs up around the dock warning of bubonic plague if you swim in it.

But maybe by April or so I might be able to... >>ponders<<
How quickly will it sell out? I really don't have the confidence to enter it now...
