I didn't leave Austria having 'left it all out there' - I finished and that was my target for the race so I was happy. I think I would like to finish IMNZ knowing that I couldn't have pushed any harder or gone any quicker. I just don't know if I have the ability to bounce back and do it all 3months later again - I'll give it some thought over the next few weeks.
Jaggy - not sure how your fitness is at the moment and I dont want to sound negative but if your back is as it was at mile 24 of the mara section of Austria would you be able to get it sorted in time to do a second relatively soon afterwards?
PO - I think it was the chav element that got me hooked - I especially liked the kids throwing stones last year (not when I went past - they were still just hanging around trying to start fires at that stage).
Symes - I reckon you could be right - you know I'd completely forgotten how bad my back was - been working on core strength and also fitness is better than last year I think. I started at a higher base and I've been consistent with training but I think I'd probably struggle to do 2 so close. Thanks for that - wise words!
Early advice I know, but anyone got any ideas as to the best wet suit to buy? Assuming we need one, I have to go out and buy it and have no idea where to start. Money less an issue than the feel and comfort (within reason).
And it also depends on how good a swimmer you are, the top-of-the-line suits are designed for fast swimmers who have a good body position in the water. With a lower body/leg position the top suits can give you lower back problems. If you are average then the mid-level range would be better for you. A reputable shop should be able to advise you on what's best for your ability. Most manufacturers run 3 designs - top, mid, and beginner levels. Read up on some of the makes and you'll be able to get an idea of which suit to go for.
Bedders - the wetsuit will seem uncomfortably tight when you try it on, it is supposed to it does loosen up in the water - as mention see if you can get to somewhere that does try befor you buy sessions - where are you based

Mine felt really tight in Bala but I hadn't pulled it up far enough so it felt tight across the chest and shoulders. >numpty!<
When we went to Porthcawl to swim last weekend Rio told me to pull it up more from the legs and them it felt perfect.
Thanks all. I did not really know where to start. The idea of waiting till season end and going to try and swim in one is great.
jpenno -Problem is that I am living in Holland but come back to the UK every fortnight and stay in the Reading, Berks area. Does anyone have an idea as to where I could go and try a wet suit and an OW swim near Reading?
Ultra - Ironwolf - In terms of my swimming ability I am yet to swim in OW. This morning I swam just over 2000m in a little under 48 mins. I was pleased with this but it was in a pool so would be much different outside I guess.

I think if I come I'll just support.
Hollywood - Is that at Luton?
Ok - crossed off my list. I know what will happen. I will waste energy by running off the course and thumping the little bastards.
Then will probably DNF as I ran 5 miles in the wrong direction and used my gels to punch harder
PO - so does that mean you're coming to CH for a party?
Symes - yeah - but that was from Jaggy!
I will definitely try come and support.
I will also more than likely be drunk from day one to day....um.....whatever.

Bascially I need all the help I can get!
get along to a reputable shop and get trying on, you may want to wait tho as I got mine later in the year in the sales

I was told that the wetsuit I bought was for "experienced swimmers"
But that was a load of tosh. I still have far too much bouyancy in my leg area.
I am saving up and having one made through SNUGG

I'm confused now....
Why does it say on the IMCH website that the race is on 7th June 2009??
OK - now I'm all confused again!
I asked yesterday what the 70.3 referrred to, and got the answer about the added-up distances.
What's the difference between the two races referred to by Nam and mellifera??
