Oh yes indeed I can relate to that, can feel them now as I type. Ooooohiiee, gritted teeth and avoiding teh bumps in the road towards the end of rides -
But the last ride I did was not as bad as the one before. I went from a hybrid with a comfy seat (not wimmins one) with suspension in the post to a thin non existent thing with no suspension on my new road bike that is wimmins specific. I'm sticking with it, despite the bruising in the hope that my, ahem, fanny bones, toughen up a bit!
If not I shall be heading to the boys toys section....
Have your sit boes measured and try a Specialized Jett. It comes in 3 widths and has for me and many others' delight (LOL) a cut out.
Wide saddles hurt the back of my top thighs.
Works of the devil a Planet X saddle and Fizik Vitesse. And people swear by these!
Definitely no pants and some decent shorts. My cycling club bib shorts I find irritating but my Tripe Talk ones are fab. Best ones I've got are something like De Marchi. But tri suits are great too!
Jumbo sanitary towel and two pairs of cycling shorts - worked for me on the first day of LEJOG. After that I just used a (fresh!) jst and one pair of cycling shorts everyday for next 3 weeks and had no probs at all.
Oh, I also used a gel saddle also to cover over my gel saddle. It's padding all the way. Sod the HTFU. Why suffer when you don't have to?
"...I ran into transition and some wonderful person racked my bike for me. While another wonderful lady helped me in the tent. She did turn a whiter shade of pale when I rummaged in my gussett to remove my secret weapon against the discomfort of 6:44 in the saddle. The talk of last weeks padded cycling shorts thread- my cut to size Scholl air pillow gel insole (pat pending). ...."

i thought i was alone in trying to protect my fannybones from bruising

Absolutely commando and try body glide if you're not keen on the 'greasy' feeling.
Commando is a good idea! Thinking about it, maybe my diamond studded thong didn't help
Could have been any combination of the many things mentioned above: shorts, saddle, position, etc.
A picture may help narrow it down...
I'm generally much more comfortable cycling in tri shorts than proper cycle shorts - particularly since I got the saddle position right.
PinguPongu I think back ache might suggest that your bike fit isn't right. Or could just be that 45 miles for first ride was a bit too far.
I did find that giving birth caused more massacre in my lady garden than cycling ever has though
maybe I've already HTFU
oooh Buney ''bruised fanny bones''.

Does **** stand for fanny or flange in this context?

PMSL @ "harden the flange up!"...
Classic!
Who was one of the original pirate women who put something like a Scholl insole down her shorts in the IM in 2004? Monique?
(I realise I am being terribly, terribly vague here - it's in a race report somewhere I'm sure)
Here it is
