I did that before - amongst many attempts at different styles.. it was the one I enjoyed the most until I discovered Krav Maga. The instructors were very good and really disciplined, which I liked. In the end I got fed up spending 3 hours in a car to do a 1hr class. So I guess you have a Dan ranking if you've been at it since 4! I remember some cheesy old action movies where the "actors" were Shotokai - Thomas Ian Griffin/th? was one - think he dipped into Shotokan after kickboxing.. anyway I hijack the thread..
Yeh my sensei was the technical director and was well strict. It annoyed me over here that the levels of discipline were really low and every dojo I went to focused on kumite - instead of kata and basics etc. They were shocked that my kata was really good - but I grew up with sensei's who drilled perfection into us from the start. In all aspects of it.
I gotta say - I LOVE kata and found it one of the most interesting aspects of training. I make do with Boxercise type stuff, a punchbag and occasional weekend self defence courses now. Much more Bond/Bourne anyway!
Pretty long story on that front - but going back for good becuase the NHS is rubbish. Need an op. Been over here for 4 years now...
Yeh - Monday and Wednesday morning from 6 - 7.30am, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night from 18.45 - 8.30pm, Friday night from 7 - 8.30pm and Saturday morning from 7.30 - 930am.
I fitted around it. Never went out on Friday nights - saved that for Saturday night. And just chilled during the week. If I was going out, would go out after training. I never thought of it I guess - I just enjoyed it
Gassuku once a year was wicked as well. Go away for the weekend and train for something like 14 hours a day...
ok I never heard of Gasuku before? Prob somethin way beyond me - I never progressed beyond yellow belt in Shotokan. Green in Wado Ryu was the longest I ever stuck with a club/style.
Well I'm not British so that blows a hole in your argument!
I read the Fleming books as a kid and really got into them. The 'new' Bond harks back to the way he was portrayed in the novels nistead of the Carry On type movies before - hence, because of similarities with Bourne, younger people assume he is a cheap copy of their "real thing".. - although if we went down that road I'd say it was the other way round since Ludlum wrote the Bourne trilogy in the 60's or 70's (?) - 10 or 20 years after Bond had hit the headlines...
lol - well I don't by any means mean to be "OH MY GOD YOU MUST BE WRONG" about it.. I just think people don't appreciate what's going on with Bond movies if they say Bourne is better (in a hypothetical argument such as this), because much of what makes Bond great is in print, whereas they took Bourne and updated him to make him much 'cooler' than he was in print. I like the Bourne movies too - have the 3 on DVD (the 3 modern ones anyway) but I think the 3rd one sucked.. the first was brilliant and the 2nd was a clever follow up even though it started diverging fom the books.. the 3rd one just seemed to be a lot of running around with a jumpy camera shot..
But then I say tomato and you say tomato.. hmm.. that doesn't seem to work in print
Comments
Daniel Craig is the new Bond.
*wonders if anyone will get that...*
always thought that Wiley Coyote was seriously tough, with all the stuff the Roadrunner chucked at him
I always wanted Wiley Coyote to catch the smug little bugger
Til I go back to South Africa
And land in 28 degree weather
2 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Possibly
I'd like to see him eaten by a lion!
I would make a better Bourne girl
Plus, I can do the arty martial type moves as well
*sigh*
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyaaaaaaaaa
PMSL!! So do you really do martial arts?
I think it Hiya! ? No? Or is that what people say when they greet each other in Japan?
Yes - done it since I was 4 years old.
To be hoenst though, H&S has definitely had a grubby paw in it over here so I found it hard to find a really good dojo.
People say Ois generally I think
Ok so you know it's Ois - which leads me to believe you train at a Japanese style - karate of some type..
Shotokan?
Dunno what H&S is though...
Health and Safety
Yeh Shotokan - done lots of styles within that but the main one is the break away style from JKA

I loved all of it. I trained 8 times a week and for a minimal fee. I couldnt' afford to do that over here. It's just not sport conducive.
My sensei is thrilled that I am going back
8 times a week!!!
woooowww.. so are you goin back to SA for good - were you just in the UK on hols?
Pretty long story on that front - but going back for good becuase the NHS is rubbish. Need an op. Been over here for 4 years now...

woah - I am WELL impressed! Doesn't leave a huge amount of time for social life though?

I would vote Bourne first
I'd kill Bond though
Why?
I think it's a British thing. We don't care about Bond in SA...
Well I'm not British so that blows a hole in your argument!

Ha ha
Not saying its completely ignored in SA - some like it and some don't. But you don't get the "OH MY GOD YOU MUST BE WRONG" if you don't like it in SA
I just find it stupid to be honest

Oh no it's not you at all. Which pretty much backs up your "I'm not British" argument
(only kidding)
I see your point and appreciate what you are saying. I still think it's rubbish and the acting to be well below par - especially on the last one
