this is a cracking race. Sandy beaches, wet chalk and flint, seaweed, a staircase of sorts and all in a race against the tide! The TRRAC really puts on a good show so delighted to start a thread linked to this event!
Thinking about this one this year, but just wondered how hard it is. Usually do halfs in 1h50 - 1h55 and did this years Thanet 20 in 3h04. Would this be suitable and what would i have to bear in mind that is particularly different to a usual race??!!
zeebra you will be fine with those times. It depends on how heavy the previous tides have been as to whether there are lots of flints on the beach which makes for interesting running!! I was tail end Charlie last year and it only took me 3.20!
Its great fun and completely different to road running
it's about time I entered this .... could fill up quickly this year. 'tis a popular jaunt and great fun! Hope the T Shirt is up to previous years standards...?
I've just entered for the first time and it sounds good-certainly very different !
Although it's clearly a race to leave the stopwatch at home and just enjoy it ; psychologically,it's nice to have a rough idea of how long I'm likely to be running for,so anyone have any idea of an approximate target for someone in 1.32-1.34 half marathon range ?
As DB2 said David a lot depends on what the tide before has brought in (im sure my Geography teacher would be able to tel us why this happens) but you just never know if your gonna get huge sand dunes or flints or 2 feet deep seaweed. Whatever you get you should enjoy the run though
Try filling your socks with sand for training runs .
You can normally keep your feet dryish, no blisters aren't usually any more of a problem than usual. The major issue is with finding the right line and if the sand is wet the pounding your calves get!
DJ39 you're probably more at risk of slipping on the flints if it has been a particularly heavy sea the day before - they can be very trick especially covered in seaweed.
Having had to drop out of the Half mara this week due to work commitements, I'm now filling in the application for this. Bring on the fresh Margate air May be a little cold for just a TRAC vest though. Fingers crossed my ship gets back (due in on the Fri before) otherwise I could start the race from the water!!!
Saturday morning sounds like a nice time for a race too (although no beer on Friday night will be a bit of a wrench !).
It does mean we'll have the rest of the weekend to recover and, while traffic conditions would rule out most urban races,I wonder why other rural or off-road events don't give Saturday morning a try ?

It's OK though - we got friends who aren't too mean and we can hijack their threads
Hope this gets loads of runners this year - new Race Director needs support.

Ooh Sporran you gonna run in a kilt please
PSC more likely to be an arty farty photo design.

Thanks.
I always enjoy races that are that little bit different,so I'm sure I'm going to love it (at least, after I finish !).
Sea and sand sounds like a combination where the risk of blisters is likely to be higher than usual:any precautionary tips for avoiding them ?
