Opinions differ as to shoes. I've run it in trail shoes and other have run it in road shoes. I will try road shoes this year.
It depends a bit on the sand. When its firm, the sand can be like running on soft concrete, in which case road shoes seem better. When its slightly softer, trail shoes seem a benefit to me... Others disagree.
Finding the line is the most important thing. Reminds me I must do a few more beach runs between now and then!
I've signed up for this as well - hopefully my legs will be holding up since it's just three weeks after the Berlin Marathon. If I can't run I'll volunteer for marshalling duties - my first marshalling experience on Sunday at the Coastal marathon was great
Glad you enjoyed marshalling Ruth66. It can be fun. It was nice on Sunday - the weather was kind and runners were almost all smiley, appreciative and heard my encouraging words.
Hope you can make the run though. It is a special run for special people
"Special", that's a new word for it! I won't be running this but I have volunteered to marshal and I agree with what others have said, this is a great race and something a bit different. If I get my usual marshal station I will be at the ramp where you enter and exit Broadstairs sands, roughly 5 and 10 mile mark.
It is indeed a special run - I've been tail end Charlie twice and enjoyed it. On race computer this year so won't be able to marshal unless Pauline can give me a place at the turnaround. Be nice to see some of you out there!
PSC no its not full yet and we usually have some entries on the day as well. why dont you suggest to your "damned tri club" that they run the time trial nice and early and finish it at Margate for a "little jogette" around the coast. sounds like a perfect brick session if you ask me
yep, I'm thinking along the same lines... it's a 10 mile TT around Ashford so it will be balls to the wall for 25 mins, then could cycle over to Fanit and have a little jog around the headlands... then mucho beer for lunch And maybe a siesta zzzzzzzzzz
Looking forward to my first Quicksand-nothing but great reports from runners I talked to after the Folkestone half last weekend.
Are any past years' results available on the internet-just to give an indication of what to expect by way of entry numbers, spread of finishing times etc ?
I ran part of the course this evening and was disappointed to see that the organisers had not marked the outstanding rocks with yellow paint. There was also a lot of seaweed on the course and a huge number of flints between Broadstairs and Joss Bay. What do they think this is, an off-road adventure course, get it sorted!!!!!
David if you entered online you collect your number on the day and you should receive race info via email. If you haven't received it email me through here and I'll forward it to you.
CF it was a tad breezy and as for the flints the course will be different this morning! Don't get me started - the other year I was tail ender and a guy ran most of the course on the prom complaining he couldn't run on sand!!!!
My first Quicksand coming up. I am a bit worried if I am honest. How are the hills? Is there much up? Last year I ran the Grizzly and made it round alright - so I should do it. Naff point I know but also is there much tarmac involved? Just wondering what type of shoes were best, trail or road?
Jamie - there is a scramble up a sand bank and a chalky/rocky path up the cliff that involves using hands but no major hills. There are also 120 steps at the turn around! A little bit of tarmac but lots of sand - wear shoes that don't soak up the water or let in too much sand!

The reviews will give you a fair idea of what to expect. I run around the coast all of the time but running on sand is a different ball game compared to road or mud, it's OK if its hard wet sand, just be ready to get you feet wet from the off. Everyone says your calfs get the best workout, for me its the balls of my feet that ache after sand runs.

hi all. i am doing beachyhead and this would be an ideal last race as it is 2weeks before + something new and exciting
what type of shoes would you advice given the unique conditions from experience

do a search for quicksand on the trac site - it might bring up other previous years too...
Does anyone know what's the procedure for race numbers/race instructions etc ?
Thanks.
Hope it's not as windy as this next Saturday-or we could all get sandblasted !

I have to say, even in the wind, it was beautiful
