Ab now here we are closing out on 2009 and seven years since I started running, seven years also since I did this event - my first ever, I remember running as a novice with a pro knocking out the first seven miles in 52.5 minutes before blowing up and fininshing in 93!
Now some may say my running style hasn't changed much over the years or indeed the distances, and well they may just be right, but who in thief right mind could ever turn down the chance of returning to Thanet for another crack at this one ? The race, the support from the family, the heated massage chair at my parents place and a Sunday roast. Oh and I have to proof to the whole of Thanet Road Runners that Im not a wimp just because I preferred to have a lie in last Saturday morning, a track session and the morning relaxing at home with my partner than running in the poring rain and gale that some TRR's were putting themselves through at Beachy Head !
Yaay!! Bring on the ice cold biting wind and the stinging salty sea spray. If I remember, I shall enter this tonight (keep forgetting to make a note of my UKA membership number) when I get home.
Hiya Ashley, be good to see you again....it's been a while
Yeah, my running has been a bit sporadic of late due to various injuries. Mava will be joining me for this as she really enjoyed the marathon. Have advised to her to wrap up though
2008 was fine but for 2007 you could have been doing with an anorak and a balaclava! Maybe I should start a new thread - what is the daftest kit you have ever run a race in!
JFD yes I got the message whilst cuddled up under a gazeebo with 67 other runners sheltering from the poring rain last Sunday morning prior to embarking on ORR 3 way mob match with EJ and PWR.
So after posting the above I get told that my partner is changing departments and may have to work the weekend, she wont know until next week, then we will be able to confirm (honest not wimping out already .
Scotty - Last time was beginning of last year I think at Sevenoaks Cross Country (when I was recovering from a nasty hangover !). Be anybodies guess how Im doing now, last year or even the beginning of this I would have said that sub 70 was achievable... today ....hmmm .... sub 80 will be a struggle me thinks
CB - dont know about racing but I think daftest Ive ever run in has to be when I started... I used to get off the train at Chislehurst and run walk the 2 miles home (which is 600 yards from the next station down the line!).. in my suite with breifcase and yes office shoes...
I did that for a couple of weeks and then invested in a pair of shorts and Ascics, and got changed in the office prior to leaving work and getting the train home...
I ran one of my London marathons wearing a Viking helmet, encouraged by such cheers as 'horny devil', but also getting confused with a rhino....... it was farily obviously a Viking helment and not a rhino costume!!
Peza the race starts at 10.00am - not sure if there are any trains that will get you to Westgate in time but there are loads of B&B etc in the locality if you fancy a weekend at the seaside!
Peza100....... First train from London on a Sun morning is the 08h03 from London Victoria. It gets to Westgate-on-Sea at 09h41. Which does cut it a bit fine??? But the start is only a warm up 5-10min maximum jog from the station.
There is a lovely B&B in Domneva Road, Westgtate-on-Sea called White Lodge.......just up from the beach. We have used it before for family coming to stay. It would be walking distance from the Station and from the start of the race. Try them here............ www.whitelodge.co.uk
I have a wedding the day before (not mine) which is in Horsham. Ending at Midnight I guess... home by 01:15am Sunday morning, race starts at 10am so Westgate by 09:20 at the lastest that means leaving home at 08:00 so will have to get up at 07:00.
Well it looking very doable actually, wont be able to make the best use of the free drink, prob wont be able to PB but what the hell...
JFDI.................Thanx for asking........ITBS remains a problem.............still not running........doing that sw***ing thing!!!!! .........and lots of streches!!
Yeah I heard that........apparently I don't count as a fully paid up member of the nutter runners club till I can say I have come back from an injury.........so I am paying my dues!!
I don't know about others definition but for me it is anybody who does a Tri or runs more than 26.2 miles on a regular basis. If coming back from an injury made you a nutter we would nearly all be nutters.
SCDC you have always appeared quite sensible to me!
Cinders - You must come and do Beachy with me next year and become a nutter. Mind you Sundays race will made you a nutter before then. Enjoy your swim on Sunday

Having just run the Bexhill Half this Sunday, I have got a taste for Coastal races.
My major concern is whether or not this is realistic via train from London on the Sunday morning? What time does the race start?
Have only ever run this distance at The Cabbage Patch 10 (Twickenham, London) before so would be nice try another one.
Thanks guys, may consider the overnight option as I am not sure I can rely on our friends at British Rail!
Will do some research but if you know of any local b&b's, hotels, much appreciated.
May stay in Margate the night before. I assume transport from Margate to Westgate on Sunday morning is straight forward?
I really want to run this race. BUT...
