I have a bit of a cough and runny nose. I'm trying to kill it off with fruit.
Andy, when you lap me at Newcastle give me a (metophorical) kick up the ar$e. I reckon you'll be on your last lap and I'll still have one more to go when our paths cross.

Not so sure I'll be lapping you, what time you expecting ?
When you see Lizzie's gaff on the Mall, put a birrova sprint on and smile for the camera after 26 miles!
That dear LB is everything i need to know in preparation for my first London marathon. It means i can have my husband waiting at mile point 25.5 with my lippy and hairbrush. With tips like that this thread is going to be so hot.
Now.... how do you bookmark a thread?
and also don't forget that if you're wearing dark shades, flip them on top of your head at the same time - make sure you can see your full smiley face on the finish photos (the one and only thing that went according to plan for me at Embra was remembering to push those shades up)
Andy - I think you missed my question on the previous page about your training / coaching methods for other runners at your club.
Just basic stuff, planning training runs, distances, pacing, the club runs just used to be one paced plods for 6 or 7 miles, we are now having endurance sessions, speedwork, hill training, monthly time trial etc. But most of all encouragement and motivation.
I'll be following you on here, might pick up some useful tips! I may email you later regarding a schedule for Edinburgh if you don't mind.
I'm planning on coming down on Sunday (a whole 2 miles from home ) to see how you speedy lot do it. I suspect it will be more like blink and you'll miss it. I really hope you don't get a windy day for it, 5 laps would be tough in that!
Exciting stuff, will be very interested to see how you get on for VLM. I'm hoping to get a GFA time this year, do some ultras in 2011 and do VLM in 2012.
I'll be following this thread. I've never run a marathon and have not got one planned, but if I can do some proper training, it might get me moving in the right direction. I tried the super six comp and never got anywhere with it (not that I expected to). I thought they might have liked the challenge with me. Obviously not!!
Kaysdee - I dunno where you get the time to train (especially if you're gonna be doing ultras), I mean you have kids, I only have a dog and I struggle lol.
Do you have some kind of time-turner device we should know about?
I'd love to get a GFA place for London, but that'd involve training for another marathon cause it aint gonna happen at Newcastle this weekend ...a very much blink-and-you-won't-miss-it thing!
What do you need for a GFA Kelly, 3:45 ? What is your best now ?
I'm going to be speaking/encouraging as many as possible from running club to come up to do Edinburgh in May. There are 3 definate London runners (2 ballot, 1 GFA), plus we have 3 club places up for grabs, so hopefully some of these can be encouraged to tackle Edinburgh as well, nice 4 week gap to recover and the training id already in the bank.
And if you need some encouragement to what can be achieved the girl in our club group, Becky has gone from 4:21 in 2008 to 3:43 this year. She has also hammered her 10km, 10 mile and half times too, this has been achieved on approx 1500 miles in 12 months.
Sound like ver similar times to mine. I can do more consistant pace in training, but as soon as it comes to race day I normally take off like a whippet
I've been chasing sub 1:40 half times for the last 3 years, I've achieved it on a race-pace training run, but never on the big day

Good Luck Andy...I'll be following you all the way through although nowhere near your pace!
Think this will be a fun 23 weeks
It's definately right.
I think.
Brain wasn't functioning by that point. Not sure I even registered Buck Palace at all!
I'll be following Andy all the way to London....
But I'll be miles behind him!
I can't drink beer or eat pies anywhere near as quick as him!!
We've got 23 weeks CC2, how about interval pie eating and speed session beer drinking?
Do you think that would help??
There is always this but with only 23 weeks we would have to start at week 2.
WTS ....... Nooooooo !
It's speed pie eating and interval beer drinking !
My god Welsh Alex, if I tried that schedule I would never even make it to the start line!!
My poor old legs could never cope with that lot!!
Wine should definitely be a satisfactory substitute.
Are you all set for next weekend? Hope you're managing to avoid everyone coughing and spluttering at you.

I'd have three more to go......
But at least you guys could get the beers in!
I expect you'll both be lapping me on lap 3
You could do a pie-handover as you go past Andy, perhaps it'll help with my in race carb refueling.
I'd happily substitute cider for the beer as a pre race fuel

I've just checked on Fetch and her times have gone from:
10km: 47 to 44 mins
10 mile: 79 to 73 mins
Half: 1:45 to 1:40
The most noticeable thing is that on her steady pace training runs she is now running at a pace that 18 months ago was pbing.
Andy - I shall be following this thread too, hoping for the odd gem of advice.

Forgot to add - be real nice to the Finishing Area peeps (including the chip collectors....otherwise they tend to cut your laces )
