Dudes, it's a Smiffy, be there and suffer. And take joy in it. I recall the man is fond of a creme egg...
Coming from Woking, if you are on the way and need it, can rack up and fit a spare bike on the roof, or two in the back if you don't mind your titanium getting scratched.
Getting to Luton Marathon takes me 1hr 20min and is 80 miles
No, you won't die but you may wish you had
When I get around to posting a map you will see it is basically a sqiggly circle kind of thing and no point is actually more than about 15 miles from the start/finish so there are plenty of places to bail if you are that way inclined
Will do the route on g-maps today or tomorrow, I tried yeasterday but it crashed on me when I was annoyingly close to finishing
Will also do a memmap of the route to get an idea of climb but I expect it to be about 50 miles with between 1800 and 2000 metres of ascent
OK a rough route guide here, I will tweak it a bit when I get on Memmap but this gives an idea. Ignore the dead end road bit about a mile in, gmaps is a bit temperamental.
Mr Smith does the route go clock wise or anti clock wise please. As this will make quite a difference to some of the hills you are intending on doing. I think I preffer anti clock wise. ie going down one tree hill and going down Yorks hill
Yes it is indeed anti clock, it is easier for the traffic that way, less crossing oncoming etc.
Ali what does memmap make the climbing?
If it is not enough I will have to have a re-jig I think Daddy Devil is about 2600mts at 75 miles.
And of course it may get revised a bit after I have driven the route to check on the road conditions. The roads have taken a real hammering this winter and there are potholes everywhere
Can no longer come and play! Smiffy has banned me!
hah no, but logistcially with my bike and getting to London for the hen party etc, just not feasible. Smiffy didn't try persaude me otherwise either, hahaha!
Thanks to lovely Dicthy though for being so welcoming! Just about to email ya! x

Hmm may be tempted... only just got my bike and will prob only have a few 30min turbos in my legs.
Qns: will I die?
Is it easy enough to get to from Luton?

There are shops at about 16,22,33 and 49 miles.
I've taken the gmap route an imported it into Memory map.... the profile looks like an aligator's mouth!!
on the plus side it appears to go anti clockwise!

Just over 1800m in 90km / 56 miles so pretty much the same ratio, a piffling 20m/km!
I do think MM slightly over-eggs the climb as it measures every little undulation, so I think you should find another hill or wo then you should!
Maybe some reps about half way round to get a bit of a sweat on!?
What is the steepest gradient in %?
And if it kills me, is that Smifficide?
Can't work out gradient unfortunately but it's vertical at points if that helps?!
There are 4 Chevrons on the route as far as I can see, denoting gradients of between 1 in 5 and 1 in 7.
Can you get a third, even smaller cog, on a compact!?
On closer inspection that route is mental and have changed my mind clock wise please
oh and can we have a special need station at the top of Yoks Hill, like Brandy , some sort of drugs and maybe a defibulator and some oxygen.
Smiffy never told everyone last time that we were no more than 15 miles away from the start each time .... he's good like that
If the roads are shite I will bring TriXie
I have crawled up on my hands and knees, that seemed to work ok

Oh, that's a shame AL, but I reckon Smiffy was just worried you'd show him up by whupping his ass up the hills!
too right Ditchy hahaha!
But you are a mountain goat! And the next day you run 3 hours in the rain!
You'll be fine.
On the other hand, we could just all bin it and crash AL's hen party!
Maybe Barley could lead off with a Pirate "You can keep your (cycling) hat on!" routine?
Oh yes please....it'll be soooooo much more fun, come save me please!!!!
and btw it's not MY hen party (oh god no!) it's my friend's hen party!!!!!
i am sensing a small measure of reluctance about attending this hen party AL...
hmmm.....1800m in 56 miles is quite a lot.
I may need to wash my hair instead.
