I'm a bit grumpy today as I wanted to swim this morning but shoulder is still a bit twingy.
I agree with what you're saying about the mentor thread AJ, but I have to remind myself I was a *little* high maintenance leading up to my first Ironman, so I'm keeping my mouth shut!

I think the problem is the thread appears to be people just listing their availability as a mentor or mentees detailing what they want. What we don't see (because we can't) is what contact is being made by PM between parties.
I think Bassy's last post is really clear and concise tho and hits the nail on the head.
I have a luvverly Mentor, altho after reading the comments on the thread, he does appear to be more of a coach to me. He is keen to see my training plans and there is regular contact on how I am doing, but that may be more to do with the fact that we seem to have become mates (and not in THAT sense) rather than mentor/coach and mentee.
If anyone had cared to read that article in TW .. you know, the one with me in it
Mentor/Mentee thing can be whatever you want, as long as it is agreed by both parties ... you need the expectations of both set in the beginning There may be someone who wants plans and there may be someone who likes lookig and tweaking plans in which case they are a good match

**cough**
if one of my mentees wants plans they can go get a coach - if they want support and advice and some abuse (although that never worked with BtS) then I'm their man
morning all - rain has put a mocker on training plans today so we'll do a TT ride tonight instead if it's dry
Thats kind of what I mean FB, set the expectations from the off and then no one is disappointed when they are told to feck off when they start sending in training plans !

Having a coach is well worth it IMHO!

have a fun day all
Just me I would be alright if someone asked me a question but if they wanted me to tell them what to do it wouldn't work at all.

I had a mentor but then I just organically gained two more.
Schmunks, does Barley mentor you?
