I was hoping to get a reply to a query I sent to the organiser via the runners world link but they haven't got back to me, it looks like I might give this one a miss. Have a great run on the day everyone!
Sharon - I did reply if youwere the lady querying about times but I got a bounceback saying your email address was unavailable! I tried from my hotmail account as well but that came back saying undeliverable. If you message me directly on here I can reply.
My husband did Halstead too. He says our first half is equally undulating but with a couple of short sharp climbs however the second half is virtually pancake flat.
Hi JFDI Support Crew, I have gremlins working in my computer and I don't seemed to be able to contact you via my email for some reason, I wanted to let you know I have been a bit of a coward and stuck the half marathons this year, but this one is definately on the cards for me next year.
Dare I say it, but I think ours is probably a tad easier than Halstead (I'm sure that will come back to bite me on the bum in September!), with the second half as it is. Just need to get into the right mindset for the 2nd half......
Having done this last year and Halstead last weekend I would say that the slopes in the first half here are probably more testing than those at Halstead but the course is overal in my opinion easier. (there are also far less slopes here) At Halstead there is very little that is actually flat - its all up or down (albeit reasonably gently) where as on this one there is lots of flat ground to eat up although the slope leding up to the finish is a bit of a killer so late in the race.
Also here where it is a bit testing (ie first half) you have all the half marathon runners to keep you going and company. Then in the second flatter half you have all the tourists think you are mad.
One of the biggest challenges I found here was having to run back to teh half way point and past the finish - always a challenge.
Fun race and hope to kick off the autumn with a good quickish go at it!
In general, I would agree that Thanet is a little easier than Halstead, providing that it is not blowing a gale. Both events are organised by people who know exactly what they are doing and both are well-supported. There are other considerations as well - country vs. seaside; Essex vs. Kent; sheltered vs. exposed. The main thing, though, is that I would not hesitate in recommending either (or both) events. As for doing the One 2 Go the week after Thanet...
Not convinced by the One2Go - see it has a new course this year starting and finishing on the Marshes. Few logistical problems with One2Go each year. Last year was interesting when almost the entire field went the wrong way
Go on Rosemary you know you want to - we have fabulous marshals and jelly babies and everything and you can have fish and chips from Peters in Margate afterwards
Hooray! I will be sorting the next batch of entries out after this weekend when I'm marshalling a 24 hour race so you should get your number by the end of next week.
I entered online about 10 days ago. Sharon, could you please update the list of entries so that I can check I am definitely in? This would be much appreciated.
Missed Halstead due to a virus in the week, but ran Orpington Marafun on Saturday. Did better than expected so now I am getting excited about Abingdon. I did the HM here last year after a 6m warm up and found it tough, but then went well at Folkestone HM and Abingdon a few weeks later. Reckon the full Marathon as a progressive run will be the way to go this year.
Ooh thank you Keith- I am trying to get the numbers posted out on a regular basis - I hope you got your email race instructions through (trying to save on paper and printing!) However this weekend was ruled out as I was supporting at a 24 hour event zzzzz
Sharon, I am curious to know which 24 hour event you were supporting. They are not so many in the UK. The only one I know is the Tooting 24h track race each year in September.

Big decisions??? Training to peak at a marathon in November but a massive ghost to bury at this race...do I go for it?
Did Brighton in April and Halstead yesterday and now looking for next one. Does anyone know how the hills here compare to Halstead?

See you in 2012!

Agree both are very good events
