i remember them mentioning the early start but i ignored it in a bout of enthusiasm
now i can't believe its may already, and the thought of a 3:00 wake up call is somewhat pi55ing me off...... the missus has already decided she will follow along later at a sensible time
Should we be concerned that they have elected to have motor boats to assist. I presume to rescue the canoodleists that can't cope with the tide either.
Oh dear, the tides aren't looking too great are they?
Does anyone know where we were tide-wise last year? It certainly wasn't slack, as I remember having to swim very hard before the start just to stay put. My swimming hasn't improved much since then , so if the tide's any worse, I'll be washed out to sea!
Found a tide table from last year which suggests high tide at last year's event was at 0730 local time and we started at around 0630 swimming against a flood tide.
Biggest difference this year is that the 'out' leg will be with an ebb tide. Think the strength of the tide will probably be about the same. Possibly entering the water at the last possible moment will be a good idea so you don't have to waste energy trying not to get swept across the start line early!
Ha ha, just realised that I havnt swum further than 200m in one go since the last race I did in Sept (although I did it 15 times with 10 sec rest in the pool last week), or run off the bike or donned my wettie since the same day.
Gladys is off doing some algebra, he's not sure that he swam into the bank of the river at the most effective angle last year! It's a ploy to try and ensure that he doesn't get chicked again

I didn't get chicked, I just chose to follow Henny round! It improved the views!
Besides, at least I'm doing it and not wimping out coz of a teeny weeny current, Jaffa!
Henny, I've lost your tel no!! I wanted to have a chat to you! Can you give me a call if you have my number, or PM / email me it again, thanks!
I'm going sub 6 hours this year. There, I've put it out there, fingers crossed!
I found out my wettie last night and its not had holes eaten into over the winter by mice in the garage, dont remember the legs being so tight or so short though. I need to make sure I'm not half dressed when folks introduce themselves too !
It was a bit parky on my bike early doors today, so I might need a few layers on !

Yes but that leaves two simple choices:
Slap up lunch anyone?
**Slopes off to check alarm clock can be set for 3am**

Ah well, at least the water will be warm...

OC - will be nice to see Brioche Bunny!
I'll be aiming for the later one - and hoping there's not a traffic jam on the M3 like there was last year
Suppose I ought to read the race instructions sometime soon too
See you there Trogs.
Gladys - where are you?

I think the phrase I'm looking for is....
Feck off!
And I see you nicked my "Man up, cupcake", feckin' tea leaf!
And you can feck off this thread as well, unless you're going to come down and support?!
Calm down dear
Well, the road bike still works but the engine's pretty useless.
And either my bike shoes have shrunk, or my feet have grown

Doozer/Rosey - look forward to hearing about the race off!!!
